Job description

The Student Counselor position contributes to the vision of the Opportunity Programs by providing a high level of student services, and successfully working towards the implementation of the goals and objectives of the Program. This role is responsible for but not limited to, providing academic, financial, career and personal counseling to HEOP and CSTEP Programs students enrolled at New York University; developing and delivering innovative student services including (i.e. colloquia, symposiums, non-credit courses (NCCs), special events and trips) and upholding the integrity of the program by adhering to University and government policy and procedures.
Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience:
5+ years related experience providing academic advisement or student services in an urban university setting.
Preferred Experience:
Experience providing academic advising to undergraduate students in a University setting. Experience developing programs and activities for college students.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal, listening, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to professionally interact with all levels (students, staff, faculty, parents and outside groups). Ability to make judgments on matters pertaining to student counseling, making referrals to University resources, and resolving other complex student issues. Ability to plan and deliver special events and seminars.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Familiarity with student information systems, e.g. SIS, Starfish. Intermediate Microsoft Office.
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $70,000.00 to USD $84,700.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
