Job description


Job Title: Interlibrary Loan Student Assistant
Effective Date: 07/16/2026
Reports to: Interlibrary Loan Supervisor
Department: Library
Rate of Pay: Maryland Minimum Wage
FSLA Status: Non-Exempt
Location of Position: Hoover Library, McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, MD 21157
Duration of Appointment: August 05. 2026 to May 25, 2026
Schedule: Schedule is at discretion of supervisor
Evaluation Procedures: Student workers are evaluated on a continuous basis.
Scope: Assist in providing Interlibrary Loan services to the College community
Responsibilities:
  • Opening the ILL Department's mail and sorting its contents
  • Checking materials in and out, using specialized software
  • Delivering materials to appropriate locations in the library
  • Retrieving books, periodicals and microfilm/fiche from library shelves
  • Preparing and packaging materials for shipment
  • Creating shipment requisitions using shipping software
  • Locating requested articles within books, periodicals and microfilm/fiche
  • Scanning requested articles using a flatbed scanner and microform scanner
  • Uploading and shipping scanned articles using specialized software
  • Returning materials to appropriate locations in the library
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Current undergraduate student at McDaniel College.
  • Ability to work 6-8 hours a week while the department is open: Mon - Fri, 8am - 4pm.
  • Ability to focus, with attention to detail, in a distracting environment
  • Good organizational skills
  • Must be dependable, responsible and self-motivated
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to learn to operate flatbed and microform scanners, computer printers and office copier
  • Ability to learn to use multiple types of software
  • Ability to bend, reach, and grasp items from shelves; push a wheeled, book cart; lift packages 10 lbs. or less; sit for 1-2 hours and use a computer keyboard and monitor.
  • Must be punctual, dependable and able to work without direct supervision
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in an office or library environment
  • Computer literacy with experience using multiple types of software
