Job description

1:1 Paraprofessional
Vision: To foster independence, integration, individualization, and productivity while enhancing the quality of the lives for the people we serve. Our goal is to enable each and every individual to reach his/her maximum potential in the least restrictive environment by selecting and promoting educational practices that are grounded in research and science, in particular applied behavior analysis; and, to assist each individual with identifying and realizing his/her own goals.

 

Responsibilities (One to One Aide)

 
  • The One to One Aide is directly responsible for student.
  • Knowledge of student's special alerts.
  • Assists in the implementation of daily and weekly programs in communication, academic, and social behaviors (including behavior programs which target measuring inappropriate behavior) as assigned by teachers/school supervisors.
  • The 1:1 Aide assists in any clerical work required (i.e., daily evaluations, requisitions, taking data, graphing).
  • Responsible for assisting student in carrying out daily activities as developed and planned.
  • The 1:1 Aide is responsible for participating in Hawthorne Country Day School facility training, in-service meetings, classroom meetings and building meetings.
  • The 1:1 Aide assists student daily in proper hygiene habits (Activities of Daily Living--ADL's/toileting program, changing diapers, etc.)
  • The 1:1 Aide accompanies student to the medical office or other services (speech, OT, PT or gym) as needed.
  • Assists student during group activities, in class or during library and computer time (helping remain on-task and engage in appropriate activities).
  • Disciplinary action will be taken if the above responsibilities are not performed satisfactorily
  • The 1:1 Aide supervises and prompts student during mealtimes to eat appropriately (with utensils).
  • The 1:1 Aide ensures that program areas are maintained properly.
  • Participates in activities of daily living program.
  • Assumes additional responsibility when assigned to maintain the quality of care for the student.
  • Follows established HCDS facility and school policies and procedures.
  • The 1:1 Aide participates in all recreational programs.
  • The 1:1 Aide assures the safety and welfare of students
  • Assumes other responsibilities as assigned.
 

Requirements & Qualifications

 
  • High School Diploma and a genuine interest in teaching and willingness to motivate student to learn.
  • Sensitivity to student's needs
  • A desire to acquire effective training techniques, and competency in behavior analysis programming.
 

Salary: $18.00/ hr.
