Job description

As a Student Nursing Aide with our facility, you may perform a variety of duties. While most of our nurses provide direct patient care, specific job responsibilities and daily activities may vary based on the needs of the healthcare team within which the nurse serves, the needs of the patient, and the patient demographics.

Student Nursing Aide Functions

May perform the following nursing duties under the delegation, direction and supervision of the Licensed Nurse on duty:

  • Obtaining vital signs, glucometer, and pulse oximetry readings

  • Assisting residents with feeding

  • Dressing changes limited to the application of simple bandaging (No wet-dry or sterile dressing change per NHS)

  • Maintenance of ostomies (e.g. colostomy and urostomy) to include measuring and application of wafer board

  • Restorative care to include ambulation with gait belt, walker, crutches and/or wheelchair

  • Restorative care to include active and passive range of motion (ROM) exercises and contracture care

  • Peripheral Venous Phlebotomy for laboratory analysis

  • Application of oxygen via nasal cannula

  • Initiation and discontinuation of nebulizer treatments to EXCLUDE racemic epinephrine administration of residents and any suspected or confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 of residents.

  • Administration of routine screening tests/immunizations (e.g. flu and TB).

  • Documentation of all procedures and/or medications administered in the facility electronic medical records platform and paper records as delegated by the licensed nurse.

  • Administration of routine medications with certain

  • Participate in the implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program for the nursing service department.

Qualifications

  • Must be Nursing Student currently enrolled in an approved school of nursing education program with the following credentials and demonstrated competencies:

  • Successfully completed coursework in Pharmacology, Medication Administration, Nursing Fundamentals

  • Must have document from school of coursework to include nursing fundamentals, pharmacology and medication administration

  • Must demonstrate competency in fundamental areas within the scope and guidelines of the Board of Nursing for Nursing Student Aide

  • Must be a minimum of Eighteen (18) years of age

  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English

  • Must have patience, tact, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude toward the elderly and disabled.
