Job description

Job Title: Structural Engineer

Job Description

This Structural Engineer role focuses on the design and production of construction documents for steel structural systems in industrial and commercial facilities. You will design a wide range of structural elements for tool install projects, including supports, platforms, and access structures, while coordinating closely with internal teams, clients, and subcontractors across disciplines to develop effective design strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Design steel structural systems for industrial and commercial facilities, ranging from simple to highly complex configurations.
  • Develop structural solutions for piping and conduit supports, anchors, catwalks, platforms, and pedestals on the tool install side.
  • Perform structural design calculations in accordance with applicable codes and standards, including AISC and ASCE.
  • Produce complete construction documents, including detailed drawings and technical specifications, using AutoCAD.
  • Ensure designs comply with current building codes, particularly OSSC and ASCE 7, and reflect appropriate seismic design requirements.
  • Coordinate and communicate regularly with team members, clients, and subcontractors across multiple disciplines to discuss design strategy and resolve technical issues.
  • Collaborate with contractors and other consultants to integrate structural designs into overall project plans.
  • Prepare documents and designs that are suitable for professional stamping, with the expectation of assuming stamping responsibilities over time.
  • Support project management efforts by providing technical input, responding to design-related questions, and updating documentation as needed.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering.
  • At least 3 years of structural engineering experience.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, with the ability and willingness to stamp structural documents in the future.
  • Strong knowledge of current building codes, particularly OSSC and ASCE 7.
  • Proficiency in structural steel design and structural analysis calculations.
  • Experience applying AISC and ASCE codes, including seismic design requirements.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD for producing structural drawings and construction documents.
  • Demonstrated experience in structural design for industrial and commercial facilities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Background as a structural or civil engineer with focus on steel structures.
  • Experience designing supports, anchors, catwalks, platforms, and pedestals for tool install projects.
  • Familiarity with multidisciplinary coordination involving clients, contractors, and consultants.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
  • Interest in collaborating on large-scale projects with major West Coast clients.
  • Capability to grow into a role that includes professional stamping responsibilities.

Work Environment

You will work in a combination of office and onsite settings. The office environment is cubicle-style, supporting collaboration with engineering colleagues and project teams. Onsite work will take place at an industrial facility where you will coordinate directly with contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders. AutoCAD and standard engineering software tools will be used regularly, and you will operate within a professional setting that emphasizes safety, adherence to building codes, and effective cross-disciplinary communication.
