Job Description
McCormick Taylor is seeking an entry level Structural/Bridge Designer (Structural Designer I) to join our team in our Harrisburg, PA and Pittsburgh, PA offices. The primary duties of the Structural Designer I are to serve in a technical role under the direction of a professional engineer for development of urban and rural highway/transportation projects with structural elements such as bridges, box culverts, retaining walls, and moment slabs. The position will provide a great opportunity to work on small, medium, and high-profile design projects in Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic region.
  • Perform structural engineering calculations
  • Evaluate and comprehend project plans and design criteria associated with transportation projects
  • Assist in develop of plans, details, and specifications for structural design projects
  • Become proficient at fundamentals of engineering processes and to apply them successfully on transportation related projects
  • Become proficient at clearly conveying design intent through engineering drawings and specifications
  • Work will be in a hybrid in-office/work-from-home environment, with some field work and travel required
  • Opportunity to engage in bridge inspection and obtain bridge inspection certification

Job Requirements
  • BS in Civil Engineering required
  • 0-3 years of experience in the design of structural, civil engineering and transportation projects desired
  • Have already taken and passed FE/EIT preferred
  • Basic proficiency with MicroStation or similar CADD platform
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Able to work in a design team environment
  • Have a good understanding of basic engineering principles and apply them in your daily tasks
  • Can learn and apply new skills quickly and efficiently with retention.
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills
