Job description

Description Ready to take the next step in your public works career. The City of Rocklin is seeking a motivated and skilled professional to join our team as a Senior Street Maintenance Worker. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced maintenance worker who is ready to lead by example, mentor others, and take on increased responsibility while continuing to apply strong technical expertise in street maintenance operations.

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Provides technical and functional direction to assigned street maintenance staff; reviews and controls quality of work; assists in completing employee evaluations; participates in performing routine maintenance and repair work. Plans, schedules, prioritizes and assigns street maintenance and repair work in consultation with the Street Maintenance Supervisor; communicates status of repairs to appropriate personnel, working cooperatively to schedule repairs in accordance with established priorities and special operational priorities. Trains and instructs employees in work methods, use of tools and equipment, and relevant safety precautions.

Assists in developing work plans, procedures, and schedules. Orders supplies and equipment for work projects; maintains records of purchase orders; may assist in developing budget figures for division. Works effectively with contractors on City approved projects; seeks bids and estimates for proposed projects.

Performs skilled street maintenance, repair, and installation work. Operates a variety of heavy equipment such as dump truck, paver, and backhoe. Responds to complaints and answers questions from public or escalates to supervisor, as necessary.

Performs emergency repairs as necessary; establishes proper traffic control devices in doing such work. Performs Underground Service Alert (USA) markings as specified and according to accepted guidelines and requirements. Performs minor adjustments on service equipment; maintains tools and equipment in working order.

Maintains logs of daily activities. Assists Police and Fire personnel in emergency situations and around hazardous accident scenes. May apply pesticide, herbicide and other pest management treatments.

Utilizes GPS and other technologies to perform job duties. May coordinate and lead regularly schedule safety meetings. Performs other duties as assigned.

To view the entire job description, click here. Education and Experience Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, and Four (4) years of responsible maintenance experience related to streets, open spaces, right-of-way, creeks, and vegetation.

License and Certifications A valid California Class C driver license or higher with a satisfactory driving record is required at the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. A valid California Class A driver license with a tanker endorsement is required within twelve (12) months of appointment.

A Work Zone Traffic Control Safety Certificate issued by the International Municipal Signal Association (I.M.S.A.), or successful completion of the Traffic Control Technician-CA State Specific Training Course thru the American Traffic Safety Services Association, is required within twelve (12) months of appointment. A Qualified Pesticide Applicator Certificate issued by the Department of Pesticide Regulation is desirable.
