The pay range is $95,000.00 - $171,000.00
Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position. These include labor markets and in some instances may include education, work experience and certifications. A role with Enterprise Strategy Development means working directly with senior leaders across the organization to develop business and functional strategies-especially those in support of growth and competitive differentiation. Your work becomes Target's annual Strategic Priorities, which are shared across the company and inform the efforts of thousands of team members worldwide every day.
Leading the retail revolution as Target's champions of bold strategic thinking the Enterprise Strategy Development team seeks to drive profitable enterprise growth by exploring new opportunities (e.g., markets, formats, channels, and guest segments), driving strategic focus and accountability, and transforming Target's business. We accomplish this through our values of building diverse and inclusive teams, connecting across the enterprise to foster relationships, and driving the organization towards bold strategic choices.
As a Lead Strategist in Enterprise Strategy Development, you will be part of project team and have ownership of an individual workstream. Through this experience you will regularly display the ability to bring structure and strategy to ambiguous problem spaces, drive implications from research, and effectively socialize your work to senior leaders through written and verbal communication.
Specific responsibilities include:
  • Applies strong understanding of Target's business economics and drivers; Integrates guest, competitive, and financial perspectives into workstreams; Draws clear links between data and business implications.

  • Defines and owns problem framing for assigned workstream; Translates ambiguous goals into structured questions; Adjusts framing dynamically as new insights emerge.

  • Synthesizes analytical research into clear, actionable insights; Translates findings into logical implications and early recommendations; Validates conclusions through partner input and team discussion.

  • Crafts coherent storylines and first-pass presentation drafts; Structures content for clarity and decision relevance; Ensures consistency and logical flow of materials across outputs.

  • Communicates key findings and implications confidently to project teams and partners; Tailors messages for different audiences; Drives clarity and alignment through consistent communication.

  • Designs and effectively manages detailed workplans for workstream execution; Tracks progress, effectively manages interdependencies, and adjusts timelines as needed; Ensures timely delivery of high-quality outputs.

  • Provides direction and feedback to analysts; Ensures alignment across functions and stakeholders; Builds strong relationships to support project execution.

  • Demonstrates Target and ESD values in all decisions and actions; Sets professional tone for collaboration and communication; Upholds quality standards and inclusivity.

About you:
  • Four-year degree or equivalent experience

  • 6+ years of professional work experience

  • 3+ years of experience in the field of strategy

  • 3+ years of retail or adjacent experience

  • Consulting experience preferred

  • Advanced degree preferred
