The Principal Strategy & Portfolio Associate leads strategic planning and portfolio management activities across the Medtronic Neuroscience portfolio. This role is primarily responsible for helping shape portfolio strategy, orchestrating the annual strategic planning process, and strengthening leadership operating mechanisms that drive execution on Neuroscience and enterprise priorities. Additionally, this role may include supporting business development initiatives and helping to define inorganic strategies.

Working closely with Strategy & Portfolio leadership, Portfolio Finance, Operating Unit (OU) leaders, and crossfunctional partners, this role develops insights, frames recommendations, and drives highquality materials that inform strategic priorities, capital allocation, and portfolio decisions.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

Strategic Planning Leadership

  • In collaboration with Finance and Strategy leadership, lead and continuously improve the Neuroscience portfolio strategic planning process, including development of timelines, deliverables, and planning milestones in alignment with OUs and Corporate Strategy.

  • Drive progress against planning milestones; proactively identify risks or gaps and partner with OU and corporate stakeholders to resolve issues and maintain momentum.

  • Develop and synthesize market, competitive, and portfolio analyses to inform strategic choices and longrange planning.

  • Support the creation of strategy presentations, briefing materials, and executive communications for Neuroscience and enterprise leadership.

Portfolio Analysis and Decision Support

  • Partner with Portfolio Finance and strategy leadership to frame portfolio analyses, investment tradeoffs, and funding recommendations across organic and inorganic opportunities.

  • Build and refine analytical models, dashboards, and decision frameworks that inform portfolio planning, resource allocation, and scenario analysis.

  • Prepare clear, insightdriven materials for portfolio review forums, enabling datadriven decisions by Neuroscience and enterprise leadership.

Leadership Team (LT) Operating Mechanisms

  • In collaboration with NS LT, design, lead, and continuously enhance operating mechanisms for the Neuroscience Leadership Team, including Monthly Performance Reviews and strategic deepdives.

  • In collaboration with OUs, own coordination and development of meeting materials, prereads, and followup tracking to ensure clear decisions, accountability, and progress against strategic initiatives.

  • Maintain and evolve portfolio reporting, key performance indicators, and progress tracking for critical strategic programs.

CrossPortfolio and CrossFunctional Initiatives

  • Play a central role in crossOU and crossportfolio strategy initiatives, ensuring alignment with Neuroscience and enterprise priorities.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across strategy, finance, marketing, clinical, and R&D to integrate market, competitive, and clinical insights into recommendations.

  • Help identify and drive convergence opportunities across OUs (e.g., shared platforms, disease state strategies, enabling technologies).

Business Development Support

  • Support inorganic activities including mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, licensing, investments, distribution agreements, sales agency relationships, co-developments, and strategic partnerships.

  • Assist in evaluation of these opportunities through market research, opportunity screening, and financial or strategic analysis.

  • Support preparation of internal materials used in these inorganic opportunity assessment and diligence processes and approval reviews through senior leadership.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

Nice to Have

  • Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Life Sciences, or related field.

  • Relevant experience in strategy, management consulting, corporate strategy, portfolio management, corporate development, finance, or related fields.

  • Demonstrated experience leading complex strategic projects, portfolio analyses, or planning processes in a matrixed environment.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to structure ambiguous problems and synthesize complex information into clear, actionable insights.

  • Proven ability to influence and partner effectively across functions, geographies, and levels in a highly matrixed, cross functional environment.

  • Experience in healthcare, medical devices, life sciences, or related industry.

  • Hands on experience leading strategic planning, portfolio management, or enterprise/OU level strategy processes.

  • Experience building financial models, evaluating investments, or supporting business cases for capital allocation.

  • Familiarity with market research, competitive intelligence, and business case development for organic and inorganic growth opportunities.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
