Strategy & Operations

David Joseph & Company

San Francisco, CA

$100K - $150K/yr

Full-time

Job description

San Francisco, CA · On-site (5 days) · Full-time
Compensation: $100,000–$150,000 + competitive equity

About the Company

We're an applied-AI startup rebuilding the foundation of the insurance industry by automating the full claims process — intake, fraud detection, and settlement — to improve loss ratios and reduce manual work for large insurers. In under a year we've reached multi-seven-figure ARR with 50% month-over-month growth, backed by top-tier venture investors.

Founded 2025 · ~12 people · Industry: FinTech / Insurtech

The Role

Work directly with the CEO to scale claims operations at one of the fastest-growing applied-AI insurtechs — bringing structure, clarity, and efficiency to how insurance claims are handled at scale. This seat fast-tracks into leadership of a core business area, with real ownership and a mandate to build and lead a team.

What you'll be doing

  • Own special projects and strategic initiatives working directly with the CEO
  • Build and formalize claims operations as the company scales rapidly (process design, hiring, workflows)
  • Design scalable, data-driven processes that optimize product workflows
  • Lead cross-functional problem-solving across product, engineering, and business teams
  • Context-switch across diverse, high-impact initiatives, bringing structure and clarity to each
Requirements
  • 1–3 years in MBB consulting, investment banking, private equity, or top-tier startup in strategic projects/operations role
  • Located in or willing to relocate to San Francisco (5 days on-site)
Green Flags
  • MBB consultant (McKinsey, BCG, Bain) with strategic project delivery experience, ideally 1-2 years post-undergrad. Direct match for the archetype.
  • Investment banking analyst at top-tier firm (Goldman, Evercore, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan, Lazard, Centerview, PJT) with 1-2 years tenure. Strong analytical and process discipline match.
  • Strategic operations or chief of staff role at a top-tier startup (Series A-C, ideally vertical AI or fintech) with demonstrated 0-1 ownership.
  • Strong technical or quantitative undergrad from a top program (Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Berkeley, Princeton, UPenn, Oxford, Cambridge, similar) paired with operational chops.
  • Internship or co-founder signal at a startup, demonstrating genuine interest in fast-paced environments beyond pure consulting or banking.
Red Flags
  • Sales background. Per the hiring manager's direct guidance: not the right fit.
  • Tenure of 8+ years at a single firm. Per call calibration: max ~3 years at current firm is the target.
  • Big-company lifer without startup adaptation signal. Candidates who only worked at one Fortune 500 typically don't translate.
  • Pure technical IC background (engineers, data scientists, ML researchers) without operational or strategic project experience.
  • Candidates who hesitate on 5-day in-person SF or high-intensity pace. We value speed and meritocracy explicitly.
Why Join
  • Work directly with the CEO on special projects with a fast track into leadership of a core business area
  • A genuine 0-1 mandate to build and formalize claims operations as the company scales
  • Multi-seven-figure ARR and 50% month-over-month growth alongside an elite, concentrated team
