The Manager, Strategic Sourcing-Indirect will play a key role in the execution of sourcing strategies across indirect spend categories to support NVA's growing network of General Practice, Specialty and Emergency, Pet Resort, and Equine businesses. Reporting to the Senior Director of Strategic Sourcing, this role will manage select category portfolios, lead strategic sourcing initiatives, and collaborate cross-functionally to drive value, efficiency, and supplier performance across a decentralized, multi-site veterinary organization.
This individual will also manage and develop a team of 1-2 sourcing professionals, supporting their day-to-day activities, professional development, and alignment with enterprise sourcing goals. The ideal candidate is a hands-on sourcing leader with deep category knowledge, team management experience, and the ability to influence stakeholders in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Management & Leadership
• Lead and develop a high-performing team of 1-2 sourcing professionals across varying levels of experience and geographies.
• Set clear objectives, provide coaching and mentorship, and support team development aligned with organizational goals.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the sourcing team.
• Manage resource allocation and project prioritization to ensure team effectiveness and responsiveness to business needs.
Strategic Sourcing Execution
• Support the development and execution of sourcing strategies across IT Software and Hardware.
• Lead end-to-end sourcing initiatives (RFPs, negotiations, contracting, and implementation) to deliver cost savings, service improvements, and supplier innovation.
• Partner with business units to define sourcing requirements, evaluate supplier capabilities, and recommend optimal sourcing solutions.
Stakeholder Collaboration
• Collaborate with stakeholders across Operations, Medical, Technology, Finance, and Real Estate to align sourcing initiatives with business needs.
• Act as a sourcing liaison for regional and hospital-level leadership, ensuring local flexibility within enterprise-wide strategies.
• Support supplier governance forums to monitor performance, escalate issues, and identify opportunities for improvement.
Category and Supplier Management
• Manage supplier relationships, monitor service levels, and drive continuous improvement and compliance.
• Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs), cost savings, and value delivery for assigned categories.
• Leverage data and market intelligence to identify sourcing opportunities and support business case development.
Operational Support
• Maintain sourcing documentation, including project plans, contracts, scorecards, and savings trackers.
• Support implementation of sourcing policies, tools, and best practices to ensure consistency, compliance, and scalability.
• Assist with spend analysis and category dashboards to inform sourcing decisions and improve reporting accuracy.
Key Objectives:
• Deliver cost savings, improved supplier value, and operational efficiencies across assigned categories.
• Manage, mentor, and support a team of sourcing professionals to increase impact and sourcing capability across the enterprise.
• Support the broader procurement transformation and standardization initiatives within the Procurement Center of Excellence (COE).
• Build credibility with internal stakeholders and become a go-to resource for sourcing support and category insights.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of sourcing processes, tools, and stakeholder engagement models.
Qualifications:
Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Healthcare Administration, or a related field required.
• Advanced degree (MBA or similar) preferred but not required.
Experience:
• 7-10 years of experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, or supply chain management.
• Minimum 2-3 years of direct people management experience, including coaching and performance development of sourcing professionals.
• Proven experience managing sourcing projects and supplier negotiations in complex, matrixed environments.
• Background in healthcare, veterinary, or multi-site organizations is a plus.
Category Expertise:
• Working knowledge of indirect procurement categories, particularly IT, facilities, and financial/professional services.
• Experience managing vendor performance and contract compliance.
Skills & Attributes:
• Strong team leadership, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Proficiency in procurement platforms (e.g., Coupa, SAP Ariba, Oracle) and Excel-based analytics.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and drive initiatives to completion.
• Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a remote/hybrid setting.
Preferred Attributes:
• Experience in veterinary or healthcare procurement environments.
• Knowledge of regulatory and operational requirements specific to clinical settings.
• Ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
• Willingness to travel (~10-15%) for stakeholder meetings, supplier visits, and site support.
Compensation: The base salary range for this position is between $125,000 - $140,000. This position is also eligible for an annual incentive.
