Description
Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America, serving Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane, and McHenry Counties. The agency is linking communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe, reliable, and efficient service.
The Supply Chain Operations Division consists of Materials Contract Administration and Storehouse Operations. The purpose of the department is to serve various customers within Metra. Managing the continuous supply of parts materials and services required to support Engineering, Mechanical and Transit Operations. Additionally, the department operates Metra's four storehouses and is responsible for managing Metra's fuel and P-Card programs.
Reporting directly to the Manager, Storehouse, the position is responsible for maintaining continuous operation of the storehouse that includes the Rail Maintenance Inventory System Integrity, safety, security, accuracy and logistics of the inventory. Supervises assigned contract employees (Storeroom Clerks), conducts daily safety meetings, responsible for the generation, distribution and follow-up of daily work assignments and training including forklift and other work equipment and specialized storage devices used in the operation of storehouse.
Processes releases for non-inventory materials and services as requested by management. Required to operate material handling equipment and operate other specialized storage equipment to store materials, load, unload, pick-up, and deliver material to various locations throughout the Metra enterprise. Receives for inventory and non-inventory material purchases as directed. Collaborates with Stores, Materials, Procurement and Accounts Payable departments to resolve various inventory and invoicing exceptions. Responsible for the daily fulfillment of material requested from the storehouse inventory, initiates inventory transfers, inventory restocking and monitoring sales orders listed on the daily hot list. Processes repair and return material per procedure. Performs cycle counting as directed. Properly documents the movement of inventory within the frame work of the inventory management system. Adds items to storage locations areas and monitors integrity and movement the inventory within the storehouse. This position is issued a company cell phone and requires flexible availability including non-operating hours, weekends, and holidays. This position is subject to 24/7 on-call status. Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
This is a Union position. Starting pay rates may vary based on entry rates in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)

Requirements
  1. High School graduate or equivalent.
  2. Must possess two (2) years of warehouse experience.
  3. Basic knowledge of coach, locomotive, and engineering material, equipment and parts.
  4. Possess good verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Required to type 25 words per minute.
  6. Possess and maintain a valid class "C" driver's license.
  7. Possess a forklift certification OR be able to be certified within the 30-day qualification period.
  8. Able to lift 50 pounds waist high.

Preferences:
  1. Experience supervising contract personnel in a Railroad or other transportation based storehouse or warehouse environment is preferred.
  2. Experience in computerized Inventory Management Systems, ERP, RMIS and Global PO systems preferred.
