The Supervisor, SPD promotes and facilitates surgical instruments/equipment across all specialties under the direction of the Sterile Processing Manager. The Supervisor is responsible for enhancing working relationships with surgical staff, promoting a team-focused environment, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory agencies, and overseeing the processing of sterilized products across the hospital. This position may fill in for the manager when absent.

• Assist with coordination of supervising and participating in SPD activities related to the establishment of and compliance with policies, standards and procedures for decontamination, sterilization, assembly, storage, and distribution of medical/surgical supplies and equipment to ensure compliance with patient care needs and regulatory standards.
• Supervise work activities of assigned staff to ensure achievement of established goals, objectives, and outcomes; provide guidance, mentoring, and direction as appropriate for ongoing staff development.
• Demonstrate effective leadership skills of delegation, organization, and coordination of activities related to functioning of the assigned unit, with 24‑hour accountability as needed.
• Assist with facilitating instrumentation changes/requests.
• Coordinate equipment and instrument changes with sterile processing staff.
• Track orientation of staff with specific equipment and instruments.
• Act as secondary contact between Sub‑Specialty coordinator and SPD.
• Order and maintain basic operating room instruments.
• Monitor changes in case cart requisitions to ensure adequate inventory of supplies.
• Demonstrate awareness of and ensure compliance with hospital and department policies, using these as a basis for decision making.
• Recommend personnel actions (hiring/firing, performance appraisals, transfers, scheduling time off) in close collaboration with Manager of SPD.
• Use analytical skills to identify problems and solutions, and implement processes to resolve them with Manager of SPD.
• Assist with maintaining liaison with representatives of local, regional, national sterile processing service providers and regulatory agencies to stay current on trends and regulations.
• Utilize interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with medical personnel, vendors, physicians, and subordinates when gathering and exchanging information.
• Maintain effective communication mechanisms in Sterile Processing with staff, surgery, and other departments.
• Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested.

Education:

• High School diploma or equivalent (Required)
• Completion of an accredited Sterile Processing, Surgical Tech or related program (Preferred)

Experience:

• Three years of experience in Sterile Processing or Surgical Technician (Required)
• One year supervisory or lead experience in Sterile Processing (Preferred)

Additional Requirements:

• National certification as a CSPD Technician (Required)
• National Certification as a Sterile Processing Supervisor or Manager (Preferred)
