Position Summary:
The Department of Population Health at Florida Atlantic University is seeking for an FAU Graduate Student Statistical Assistant in Boca Raton, FL.
The Graduate Student Statistical Assistant (GSSA) provides intermediate-level biostatistical and analytic support for research and evaluation projects within the Department of Population Health. Working under the supervision of faculty biostatisticians and senior research staff, the GSSA contributes to study design, data analysis, documentation, and dissemination of findings while advancing their academic and professional training. This role balances hands-on analytic work with mentorship and is intended to support both departmental research needs and the student's educational objectives.
Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Assist with study design considerations, including variable selection, endpoint definition, and analytic approaches, under supervision.
  • Conduct descriptive and inferential statistical analyses using R, SAS, Stata, Python, or other approved software.
  • Perform data cleaning, validation, and transformation to support reproducible analyses.
  • Support power, sample size, or feasibility calculations for proposed or ongoing studies as appropriate to training level.
  • Participate in sensitivity or exploratory analyses with guidance from supervising statisticians.
  • Create and maintain annotated analytic scripts, data dictionaries, and codebooks following departmental standards.
  • Assist with preparing analysis memos summarizing methods, assumptions, and results.
  • Use established workflows and version-control or file-management practices to support reproducibility.
  • Generate tables, figures, and data visualizations suitable for abstracts, presentations, manuscripts, and internal reports.
  • Contribute content to manuscripts or abstracts, particularly in methods and results sections, under faculty guidance.
  • Help translate analytic findings into clear summaries for non-technical audiences, including program staff and partners.
  • Collaborate with investigators, coordinators, and data owners to ensure secure data handling and compliance with IRB, HIPAA, and data-use requirements.
  • Assist with grant and contract submissions by supporting analytic plans, feasibility estimates, or data summaries.
  • Participate in team meetings, project planning discussions, and quality-improvement activities for analytic services. Other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
FAU degree seeking graduate student enrolled in biostatistics, statistics, data science, or a closely related field required.
Graduate level coursework in statistics, biostatistics, or quantitative research methods required.
Working knowledge of at least one statistical programming environment (e.g., R, SAS, Stata, or Python) required.
Ability to clearly document analytic steps and communicate results in writing required.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required.
