Industry UsagePower generation, manufacturing, transportationUtilities, transportation, manufacturing

Both Station Operators and Control Room Operators work in industrial environments, monitoring and controlling equipment. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right career path or job search focus.

What are some of the main challenges station operators face during shift work, and how can they manage them?

Station Operators often work rotating shifts, which can disrupt sleep patterns and affect work-life balance. Managing fatigue and staying alert during night shifts are common challenges. Many operators find it helpful to establish consistent pre- and post-shift routines, prioritize sleep hygiene, and use effective communication with their team to ensure a smooth handover between shifts. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and staying organized can also help mitigate the impact of non-traditional work hours.

What is a station operator?

Station operators are professionals responsible for managing and overseeing the day-to-day operations of facilities such as power plants, water treatment plants, train stations, or gas stations. Their duties typically include monitoring equipment, ensuring safety protocols are followed, performing routine inspections, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining operational records. Station operators play a crucial role in ensuring that the station functions efficiently and safely, often working in shifts to provide continuous coverage. They may also coordinate with other staff and respond to emergencies or unexpected problems as needed.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a station operator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Station Operator, you need a solid understanding of mechanical systems, process operations, and safety procedures, often supported by a high school diploma or technical certification. Familiarity with SCADA systems, control panels, and relevant safety or equipment certifications is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and effective communication are critical soft skills for this role. These abilities ensure the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of industrial or utility stations, minimizing risks and downtime.

Pre-Fab Operator

Lava Island

Aurora, CO • On-site

$18.25 - $21.25/hr

Full-time

Posted 28 days ago

Job description

Welcome to Lava Island

Lava Island is an indoor play oasis where kids fly across trampolines, vanish into towering jungle gyms, dive into foam pits, and race down slides while families share pizza and celebrate birthdays in the party rooms. It is loud, bright, and full of energy.

Every trampoline, deck, slide, and play piece is made by hand. Active Play Solutions (APS) is the team that makes them.

The Job

You will work in the Pre-Fab group on the APS production floor in Denver. That means deck boards, foam, floor pads, vinyl wrapping, and the glue room. You will read work orders, run the equipment, and produce the parts that ship out to new parks across the country.

This is hands-on work, all day. You will be part of a small production crew, working alongside the Production Manager and other operators.

Why APS

  • Real product. The work you do today shows up in a park kids will play in.
  • Cross-training. You will learn multiple stations, not stay locked into one job. Operators here are valued for what they can do across the floor.
  • Steady company. APS is growing, and we are hiring for the long run.
  • Predictable schedule. Day shift in our Denver warehouse. No travel.
  • Benefits. Per company benefits program.

What You Will Do

  • Run the Pre-Fab stations: deck boards, foam, floor pads, vinyl wrapping, and the glue room.
  • Read work orders and follow specs to produce parts that match the design.
  • Catch your own quality issues. Do not pass problems downstream.
  • Cross-train into other stations and production groups over time.
  • Keep your work area clean and safe. PPE always.

What You Need

  • Production, fabrication, or manufacturing experience. You have worked with shop equipment before.
  • Can read a work order and follow basic specs and SOPs.
  • Reliable. Show up, hold a steady pace, do the work.
  • Open to cross-training. This is a build-it-up role, not a stay-in-one-lane role.
  • Comfortable around active machinery and following safety rules.

Experience with foam, adhesives, or vinyl is a plus. So is bilingual (English / Spanish).

Ready to Join the Crew?

If you want hands-on work in a Denver warehouse making the stuff kids play on, we want to meet you. Apply today.
