Job description

Position Title:Packaging Team Member

Reports to: Production Supervisor

Department: Operations

Classification: Full-time, Non-Exempt

Pay: $19.46 - $22.50 an hour

The Packaging Team Member is responsible for operating automated, semi-automated, and manual production lines to pack high-quality olive oil products. The role works closely with team members to ensure efficient production and adherence to quality standards. This position typically works Monday through Friday, with extended hours and weekend work required during Corto’s harvest season, which usually runs from mid-October to late November, as well as at other times during the year as needed.

This position will be primarily responsible for:

  • Operating and monitoring packaging machinery to ensure efficient, accurate, and food safe filling, capping, labeling, and packing of olive oil products.
  • Utilizing standardized work procedures for all tasks and providing feedback on updates needed.
  • Performing routine equipment checks and basic maintenance to ensure machinery is functioning correctly. 
  • Identifying and resolving any issues or malfunctions that may arise during the packaging process. 
  • Reporting any defects or inconsistencies to appropriate personnel.
  • Assisting in the packaging and preparation of e-commerce packaging finished goods. 
  • Working closely with team members to ensure smooth operation of the packaging lines. 
  • Providing support to supervisor as needed, including taking on additional tasks or responsibilities. 
  • Adhering to all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment. 
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the packaging area, ensuring compliance using sanitation standards and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one or more years of experience in packaging or manufacturing environment, preferably in the food industry. Strong attention to details and commitment to quality.
  • Effective verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Basic math and grammar skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Basic mechanical skills and the ability to perform basic routine equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to operate a forklift and successfully pass both a written and driving test.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. 
  • Availability to work flexible hours in alignment with harvest and production requirements.

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Familiarity with industrial manufacturing equipment.
      • Experience or exposure to control systems, HMI (Human Machine Interface), and operational dashboards.
      • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.

      Physical Requirements:

      Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; rare stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and frequent fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires the following percentages of time committed to physical activity: 25% or, 50% or more walking, and 50% or more standing. The job is performed under occasional temperature variations and in a manufacturing environment. Unrestricted visual and audio abilities are required for the safety of all employees. The ability to lift up to 45 lbs. is required.
