Test Engineer / Automated Test Engineer Location: Annapolis Junction, MD Work Schedule: Full-Time Telework: Up to 2 days per week Clearance Required: TS/SCI with Full-Scope Polygraph Position Overview We are searching for an Automated Test Engineer to support Report Authoring and Dissemination (RAD). This role will help ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of the RAD system while supporting the ongoing modernization of authoring and dissemination tools. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, passionate about software quality, and experienced in developing robust automated test suites for modern web applications and APIs. This position will work closely with a cross-functional Agile team of software developers, system engineers, DevOps engineers, and product owners to validate functional enhancements and ensure comprehensive test coverage. Key Responsibilities * Independently design, develop, and maintain high-quality, scalable automated UI and API test scripts using Cypress. * Execute automated test suites, analyze results, troubleshoot failures, and document defects and testing metrics. * Partner with DevOps and software engineering teams to integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines, including GitLab CI/CD. * Validate functional enhancements, new features, bug fixes, and system updates. * Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, demos, reviews, and team discussions. * Collaborate with software developers, system engineers, and product owners to understand requirements and ensure test coverage. * Support continuous improvement of QA processes, testing standards, and automation practices. * Help ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of mission-critical reporting and dissemination systems. Required Qualifications Experience * Minimum of six (6) years of experience as a Test Engineer supporting test engineering of modern hardware/software systems. * Experience designing, writing, and maintaining automated tests using Cypress. * Automation experience must be clearly described on the candidate's resume. * Experience testing modern web applications, RESTful microservices, and APIs. * Strong understanding of software QA methodologies, tools, and processes. * Practical experience working in Agile software development environments. * Experience using collaboration and tracking tools such as Jira and Confluence. * Experience with version control systems, including Git. Education * Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Substitutions: * Four (4) years of additional Test Engineering or related experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree. * A master's degree may be substituted for two (2) years of experience. Required Technical Skills * Cypress test automation * JavaScript or TypeScript * UI and API test automation * RESTful API testing * Web application testing * Microservices testing * Software QA methodologies * Agile development practices * Jira and Confluence * Git/version control Desired Qualifications * Experience configuring and integrating automated tests within CI/CD pipelines, such as GitLab CI/CD. * Familiarity with cloud-based architecture and deployment, particularly Amazon Web Services (AWS). * Basic understanding of containerization using Docker. * Experience testing applications in consistent containerized environments. * Familiarity with government agency reporting and dissemination policies. * Experience supporting modernization efforts for enterprise or mission systems. Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal candidate is a hands-on Automated Test Engineer who can independently build and maintain automated test suites, troubleshoot failures, and collaborate closely with Agile development teams. This person should be comfortable testing modern web applications and APIs, working within CI/CD environments, and helping improve overall software quality throughout the development lifecycle.
