Our innovative and award-winning K-16 GEO Academies Model begins with personalized, competency-based learning and accelerates students into post-secondary immersion as early as 9th grade.  GEO Academies students have the opportunity to earn a full college degree or career credential even before graduating from high school - at no cost to families.

About Us:
21st Century Charter School at Gary is a part of a network of high-quality public charter schools that deliver the innovative GEO Academies model developed by the GEO Foundation. It joins Gary Middle College and GEO Next Generation High School Indianapolis in delivering a high-quality learning experience to parents and students in Indiana. 21st Century Charter School is a tuition-free, public charter school that serves students in grades K-12. Our dedicated faculty are committed to providing an outstanding education for students each day as they transition from elementary school to middle school to high school and COLLEGE. Through our partnership with local colleges and universities, our students will be able to take dual credit courses on the college campus to earn college and career credits at no cost to the student. REPORTS TO/TERM: 

Principal

This is a 10-month position.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
An Elementary School teacher is required to perform the following duties:

  • Plan and implement a blended learning environment, providing direct and indirect instruction in the areas of Social Studies, Science, Language Arts, Health, and Mathematics based on state standards
  • Create an inviting, innovative and engaging learning environment that develops student critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Prepare students for strong academic achievement and passing of all required assessments
  • Communicate regularly with parents
  • Continually assess student progress toward mastery of standards and keep students and parents well informed of student progress by collecting and tracking data, providing daily feedback, weekly assessments, and occasional parent/teacher conferences
  • Work with the Special Education teachers and administration to serve special needs students in the classroom
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom you are responsible
  • Accept and incorporate feedback and coaching from administrative staff
  • Attending all required staff meetings and attend designated school functions outside of school hours
  • Other duties as assigned by the Administrative staff
  • Professional dress

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A bachelor's degree or higher with at least 24 credit hours in content area
  • Valid Indiana Professional Educator License for Grades K-5  (Charter School, Alternative School & Emergency Permits accepted)
  • Strong technical skills, particularly in integrating technology in the classroom to drive academic achievement
  • Demonstrated volunteer or community service
  • At least two years of successful teaching in an urban environment 
  • TAP certification desired
