Mentored by : Dining Services Director Accountable to : Elders, Staff, Guests and Employees

Position Summary : Responsible for all aspect of the Meadows Market Café including planning and execution of day to day operations. Responsible for selecting, training and supervising all Meadows Market Café Personnel: Food Purchasing, receiving, preparation, sanitation, safety and service for all meals through direction and delegation. Work directly with the Dining Services Director on oversight of the Café Budget to ensure all aspect of budget, including Labor and expenses are within budget. This position is 40-hours per week exempt position, requires flexibility to meet café scheduling needs inclusive of weekend.

Qualifications & Education Required:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent is required
  • HACCP/Food Safety Certified is required – St. John’s will provide
  • Bachelors or Associates Degree in Hospitality Management is preferred.
  • Fluent in the English Language
  • At Least five (5) Years’ experience (two (2) of which in a management position) preferably in a high volume upscale restaurant, hotel, country club or senior living community.
  • Meet and maintain St. John’s vehicle driving standards.

  • Perform daily Market Café, kitchen and service area inspections.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to all residents, guests, volunteers, employees.

Position Responsibilities :

  • Direct Supervision and Management of all Meadows Market Café staff of five (5) full time employees.
  • Creating and Implementation of training processes of all new and current staff members of the Market Café.
  • Creating, planning, and executing of all Market Café Standard Daily Menu’s, daily specials, special events and holiday menus. Working with kitchen Chef’s
  • Oversight of daily production and preparation of all food prepared and served for the Café. Working with the Kitchen Chef’s
  • Ensure kitchen and service areas are set up for each meal period and that Café is attractively set up for service.
  • Ensure dining area, retail items and service counter is kept neat and properly stocked.
  • Conduct a daily, weekly and monthly inventory of all stock in the Café.
  • Scheduling of Market Café employees for all shifts breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week including holidays, and special events.
  • Ability to call in orders to food and beverage distributors as needed.
  • Ensure proper stocking, purchasing and inventory of Café retail grocery store items.
  • Knowledge to coordinate theme and special events.
  • Ability of knowing the needs for special functions and the capability of properly setting up for Special functions occurring at Chestnut Court.
  • Ensure all related areas are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized at the end of each shift.
  • Attend all department meetings, mandatory trainings and staff meetings.
  • Greet and serve residents, resolve any complaints, problems or questions that occur.
  • Knowledge of opening and closing the P.O.S. System as well as operating all aspects of the P.O.S. including adding, deleting and maintaining system barcodes.
  • Responsible for hiring, training and disciplinary processes of direct reports.
  • Perform all other tasks as required by management.
