Position Title: Peer Success Coach

Department: TRiO Student Support Services with the Office of Student Experience and Transformation (SET), University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP)

Position Type: Part-Time (Academic year, 8 to 10 hours per week)

Reports To: Director, Student Support Services and SSS Coordinator

Position Summary:

TRiO SSS Peer Success Coach is a student leadership position responsible for providing support to first year and/or continuing undergraduate students at UWSP. The SSS Peer Success Coach may serve as a support student leader for the First-Year Experience Seminar class; role model and mentor to students inside and outside of the classrooms by connecting them to on- and off campus resources; assist in coordinating events and programs that provide engaging, inclusive, and academically integrated transitional experiences to enhance student belonging, development and success at UWSP.

Compensation: $14 per hour

Hours: 8 to 10 hours per week

Responsibilities:

  • Class Attendance: May attend at least one First Year Experience Seminar section with SSS staff in the fall and one Career Exploration Workshop or career related workshops in the spring semester to help support students inside and outside of the classroom. Serve as a liaison between students and faculty/staff, providing insights into student needs.

  • Mentorship/Coaching: Support assigned case load of TRiO SSS first year and/or continuing undergraduate students to ensure successful transition to UWSP campus and community. Build positive mentoring relationships with first year and/or continuing undergraduate students. Conduct one-on-one coaching sessions to provide academic and personal support. Assist students that have questions and be able to schedule meetings with TRiO SSS Staff. Help students develop effective study strategies, time management, and goal-setting skills. Provide guidance on campus resources, clubs, and involvement opportunities.

  • Program and Office Support: Office support at TRiO SSS program. Facilitate group discussions, workshops, or activities related to student success. Assist with first-year experience events, orientation, and campus programming. Encourage student engagement and a sense of belonging within the campus community.

  • Other Expectations: Represent TRiO SSS, SET and UWSP in a manner that exemplifies genuine respect and professionalism. Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in mentoring relationships. Participate in ongoing training and professional development sessions. Represent TRiO SSS/SET at events such Orientation, Information Sessions, and campus events for current students. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Be in good academic standing (2.5 GPA or higher)

  • Must be Sophomore standing or higher at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Main Campus

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience as a mentor, tutor, or related leadership position

  • Experiencefacilitatinggroup discussions or presentations

  • Experience planning events

  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, andmaintainprofessionalism
