Job description

AmericanAg®, a global provider of diversified reinsurance services, is looking for a Senior Claims Manager to work out of our office in Schaumburg, Illinois. This is a hybrid position working in the office a minimum of three days a week. Travel for this position will be up to 15% to 20%.

As a Senior Claims Manager, you will be a trusted advisor to internal and external clients. You will leverage your extensive claims expertise to manage and present complex claims, risk management topics, and drive educational initiatives. These claims will involve extra contractual obligations, excess policy limits, bad faith, pollution, workers’ compensation, and occurrence catastrophe.

The Senior Claims Manager is responsible for:

  • Maintaining working knowledge of reinsurance programs provided by AmericanAg® and efficiently handling claims against those programs to ensure clients receive full benefit
  • Traveling and providing education, claim review, evaluations, consultation, and/or assistance to each assigned account
  • Interacting and engaging comfortably, appropriately, and positively with senior managers and executives
  • Building credibility and influence with cross‑functional teams through subject‑matter expertise in areas such as reinsurance treaty analysis, claims handling practices, and emerging industry trends
  • Presenting at client and industry conferences, seminars, or continuing education programs, with the ability to clearly communicate complex insurance issues

What you will bring to this role:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience; JD is a plus
  • 8+ years of complex claims handling experience, which may include extra contractual obligations, excess policy limits, bad faith, pollution, and/or workers’ compensation
  • Reinsurance claims experience and experience working in private practice with a focus on insurance defense is a plus
  • Experience drafting clear, concise legal analyses, coverage evaluations, position statements, and internal guidance documents
  • Experience presenting at insurance, claims, or legal seminars, conferences, or continuing ed programs, with a demonstrated ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical guidance for operational teams
  • Professional designations such as CPCU or ARe preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, along with strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage data effectively through technology

The expected starting salary range for this position is between $165,000 and $190,000. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position is also eligible for an annual productivity bonus.
