What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a SQL Server Developer?

To thrive as a SQL Server Developer, you need strong proficiency in SQL programming, database design, and data modeling, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), T-SQL, and certifications like Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate are highly beneficial. Analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for understanding requirements and collaborating with teams. These skills ensure robust database solutions, efficient data management, and successful project delivery in business environments.

What are some typical challenges a SQL Server Developer faces when working on large-scale database projects?

SQL Server Developers working on large-scale projects often encounter challenges such as optimizing complex queries for performance, ensuring data integrity during migrations or upgrades, and managing concurrency to prevent data conflicts. They also need to collaborate closely with database administrators, application developers, and business analysts to align database design with application requirements and business goals. Staying current with evolving SQL Server features and best practices is crucial for maintaining efficient, secure, and scalable databases.

What is the difference between Sql Server Developer vs Database Administrator?

Our client, an established player in the financial services sector, is expanding its technology team and looking for an experienced .NET Full Stack Developer. This role suits someone who has built and shipped scalable enterprise systems end to end - comfortable moving between backend services and the frontend layer using the .NET stack. A distinguishing requirement here is practical, day\-to\-day fluency with AI\-assisted development tooling such as GitHub Copilot or Microsoft Copilot (or comparable assistants), used to speed up coding, cut down on repetitive work, shorten debugging cycles, and generally streamline how software gets built.

Compensation

Base pay is set according to location and a range of other considerations. Where applicable by law, a role based in Montreal carries a base range of CAD $110,000-$130,000 annually, plus the benefits outlined further down.

 • Build dependable APIs, microservices, and backend components tailored to financial applications.

 • Partner with product owners, business analysts, architects, and QA to ship high\-quality deliverables.

 • Apply Copilot and other AI coding assistants across code generation, refactoring, documentation, debugging, and overall throughput.

 • Produce clean, secure, maintainable, and clearly documented code aligned to established practices.

 • Review peers' code and uphold coding standards and secure\-development principles.

 • Tune applications for performance, reliability, and scale.

 • Work across SQL Server and other relational stores, contributing to data modeling, query tuning, and integration work.

 • Take part in CI/CD pipelines, release processes, and broader DevOps practices.
