Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to young men and women, to provide an environment for student-athletes to learn, advance and excel both academically and athletically, and to serve the interests of the University by complimenting and enhancing its diversity and quality of life. Through its athletic programs, the University seeks to unite alumni, faculty, administration and students in a common shared experience. The governing unit within the Department of Athletics is the Director's Office, which is the administrative office and clearinghouse for the entire Department of Athletics, and promotes the department's guiding principle of educating and inspiring through athletics. This unit provides support to administrators, coaches, staff members and student-athletes in order to provide and promote a premier intercollegiate athletic program for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Department of Athletics is a highly visible public relations arm of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with statewide, national and international recognition.
Position Summary
Under administrative direction, the Director of Sports Performance - Baseball leads, guides and directs the Baseball sports performance program. Develops sports performance curricula which elicit safe and correct execution of exercise techniques, guiding student-athletes through a regimen of exercises to optimize performance and decrease injury potential; teaching proper weightlifting, speed, agility and conditioning techniques; encouraging and motivating student-athletes to train and perform to their utmost potential. Promotes Intercollegiate Athletics as an integral part of the University. Reports to the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Health and Well-Being.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Minimum of a bachelor's degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with at least 1 year of experience in relevant independent instructional or educational activities; specific minimum experience is at the discretion of the Director of Athletics.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
4-5 years of coaching experience in an intercollegiate environment preferably at a Division I level. Knowledge of and familiarity of NCAA rules and regulations. Good organizational, interpersonal communications and computer skills necessary.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Minimum of 4-5 years of experience working with college level athletes in strength and conditioning. Baseball experience preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations; must be proficient in the instruction, assessment, evaluation and supervision of multiple weightlifting techniques; ability to physically demonstrate proper exercise techniques and have knowledge of use and maintenance of fitness equipment. Advanced computer knowledge is beneficial along with experience using performance technologies such as GPS, heart rate monitoring, and other performance metrics. Prefer experience as prior professional, Olympic, or collegiate athlete. Demonstrated ability and skill in the implementation of advanced training principles as applied to the development of speed and power. Ability to assist and work independently in the corrective strategies necessary toward addressing problematic commonalities in Student-Athlete Baseball players and other sport areas as assigned. Demonstrate a positive mental attitude and the ability to communicate effectively and work well with student-athletes, parents, faculty, staff and the community. Possess a commitment to high academic standards for student-athletes and their ability to succeed both academically and athletically.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Must be able to lift/move 25lbs or greater. May be required to navigate stairs. Attention to detail essential. Must be able to manage high volume, fast paced environment. May be subject to working in extreme weather conditions. Travel required.
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
