JOB DESCRIPTION


Title: Sport Complex Maintenance Worker

Department/Division: Fitness Center

Status: Hourly / Part-time / weekends and some evenings mandatory

Supervisors: Facilities Manager

Subordinates: None


POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Vice Chairman, the Sports Complex Maintenance Worker will prepare and maintain the Sports Complex which includes the upper ballfield, Skatepark and help maintain other recreational areas near the admin building.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate a variety of tools, line ball fields
  • Water fields for dust control and field repairs
  • Drag fields to prepare for games
  • Empty trash cans daily, during and after games
  • Pick up area around ball fields
  • Clean snack bar, restrooms, announcers' booth and stock restrooms
  • Performs other related duties as directed by the Vice Chairman
  • Minor repairs for plumbing, fencing and power equipment.
  • Open and secure field gates, restrooms, snack bar, announcer booth and turn field lights on and off for events.
  • Maintenance and upkeep will include, bleachers, and snack bar, tennis courts, outside basketball court, gazebo, playground, walking path, horseshoe pits, minor painting, flag poles and parking lots using hand tools, power tools, and/or various other equipment.
  • Occasionally assist at other tribal facilities during inclement weather.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, CERTIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:


  • Knowledge of the practices, methods, tools, and equipment used to complete the necessary tasks
  • Knowledge of the operation and care of equipment, tools, and supplies used relating to the job
  • Knowledge of safe work procedures in the operation of small hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of materials and products used in ball field maintenance
  • Ability to work harmoniously and cooperatively with other employees and the public
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical work with prolonged standing and walking for extended periods, walking over rough or uneven surfaces, stretching, bending, and pushing, stooping, climbing, crouching, crawling, moving, lifting, and carrying loads weighing 50 pounds
  • Willing to take online training and/or classroom setting courses pertaining to the position


WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Exposure to inclement weather conditions while performing work, including exposure to wet and/or humid conditions
  • Work is performed outdoors while exposed to fumes, odors, dust, dirt, rain, heat, cold, chemicals, and machinery with moving parts
  • The noise level in the work environment is loud when operating equipment


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Experience with power tools preferred.
  • Experience in field maintenance and related equipment is a plus.
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends based on department needs
  • Must acknowledge and agree to maintain a Drug-Free workplace (including marijuana) as a condition of employment with the Pala Band of Mission Indians. Must pass a pre-employment and random drug testing during employment
  • Must successfully pass a Fingerprint-based background check of potential employees, volunteers, and contractors pursuant to Public Law 101-630 - Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.
