Position Overview

JDH Contracting and Northern Lights Locating and Inspection are family-owned companies built on hard work, trust, and long-term relationships. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Director of Human Resources to help strengthen our people, processes, and culture while preserving the values that have made our organization successful.

The Director of Human Resources is a key leadership partner to ownership and senior management, responsible for leading HR, payroll, and compliance functions across a multi-state organization. This role is ideal for a practical, solutions-oriented HR leader who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves, building structure, and supporting steady, thoughtful growth.

This position bridges strategy and execution—helping guide the company forward while staying closely involved in day-to-day HR operations, payroll accuracy, compliance, and employee relations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and continuously improve HR programs, policies, and practices that support company growth, employee performance, and retention

• Serve as a trusted partner to ownership and leadership on workforce planning and long-term talent needs

• Oversee employee relations, payroll, benefits, compliance, and HR administration

• Maintain a strong, down-to-earth company culture across all locations

• Manage multi-state payroll ensuring accuracy and compliance

• Collaborate with Finance on budgeting, labor tracking, and cost management

• Oversee HRIS and payroll systems and drive process improvements

• Manage employee benefits programs and vendor relationships

• Ensure compliance with employment laws and DOT/FMCSA requirements

• Handle employee relations, investigations, and corrective actions

• Oversee onboarding and employee lifecycle processes

• Support performance management and employee development

• Improve HR and payroll processes without unnecessary complexity
