QUALIFICATIONS:          1.         Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
2.         Illinois Type 73 Certificate and any other additional qualifications as set by state certification authorities
3.         American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) - Optional.
4.         Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SP).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:            

1. Skill in providing oral and written presentations;
2. Familiarity with MS Office Applications, especially MS Word;
3. Knowledge of therapeutic interventions and techniques in the areas of speech/language, auditory processing, feedings, and social language disorders;
4. Knowledge of appropriate evaluative tools and techniques used in conjunction with the various disorders, such as clinical evaluation of language fundamentals, tests of problem solving and language sampling;
5. Knowledge of professional code of ethics;
6. Knowledge of group and personal dynamics;
7. Knowledge of appropriate state and federal laws and relations related to the speech/language area;
8. Knowledge of review and augmentation and alternative communication systems, and assistive technology;
9. Skill in development and administration of therapeutic and instructional materials;
10.Skill in developing the appropriate rapport with students, staff and family members;
11.Ability to handle confidential information appropriately;
12.Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

 
REPORTS TO:               Building principal.
SUPERVISES:               Students.
JOB GOAL:                    

To provide comprehensive speech-language pathology services to students three years old through eighth grade who are in need of such services.  This involves identifying; evaluating and treating students with speech/language, auditory processing, feeding and social language disorders which significantly impact the student's ability to participate successfully in education, vocational, community and home environments.

 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.      Direct Services

 
A.    Demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the Illinois State Board of Education Rules and Regulations and the Response to Instruction (RTI) process.
B.    Conducts screening procedures for the purpose of identifying individuals who may need speech and language evaluation, and participates in the Response to Instruction process and is responsible for implementing interventions and monitoring student progress, as needed.
C.    Implements referrals to acquire various services, and conducts a speech and language evaluation, when appropriate, for the purpose of identifying individuals who may be eligible for services.
D.    Conducts speech and language evaluations as part of case study evaluations and reevaluations.
E.    Participates in conferences, (e.g. multidisciplinary, IEP, modification annual review, building base team, and PPS team) to achieve the purpose(s) of the conference.
F.    Provides appropriate treatment to all students eligible for speech and language services as indicated in the student's IEP.
 

2.      Support Services

 
A.    Provides consultation to school personnel, other agency professionals, and/or parents.
B.    Carries out service and program planning and developing processes while working collaboratively as a team at the District and cooperative level.
C.    Maintains professional competence.
D.    Assists in carrying out quality control procedures to assure effective accomplishment of service objectives.
E.    Educates stakeholders about student services, programs or agency policies and procedures.
F.    Participates in staff development opportunities in order to continue to develop and maintain professional skills in addition to staying current with trends and research based practices in the Speech and Language Pathology field.
G.   Participates in the research and adoption of innovative practices to increase the quality of service delivery.
 

3.      Administrative Services

 
A.    Participates in personnel recruitment when feasible.
B.    Utilizes documenting procedures to facilitate service delivery.
C.    Participates in coordinating services and resources throughout the district and at the cooperative level when appropriate.
D.    Assists in implementing due process procedures to inform and protect individuals of their rights.
E.    Communicates regularly and is an integral part of the team and conducts appropriate communication practices to facilitate total effective operation of program and services delivery for students.
F.    Participates, when requested, in budget preparations to acquire needed resources.
G.    Implements requisitioning procedures to obtain adequate supplies and equipment.
H.    Travels throughout district and cooperative as necessitated by assignment.
I.      Supervises the activities of a speech pathology intern and Clinical Fellow.
J.     Performs related duties as assigned.

 
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1.       Employment determined by school calendar.
2.       Employed as established by the agreement between the board of education and the Lombard Education Association.
EVALUATION:
Performance is evaluated regularly by the building principal, or appropriate central office administrator.
