Senior Software Engineer (Frontend), Social

Location: San Diego, CA (Rancho Bernardo)

The Senior Software Engineer will design and develop PlayStation features on the PS5, mobile, and other supported platforms. They will provide strong technical knowledge, experience, and implementation efforts across a set of client applications. The ideal candidate will come from a strong object-oriented development background and be passionate about client applications and web technologies.

Role Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop complex projects across multiple teams and fields to deliver new and innovative features.
  • Develop and maintain high quality front-end applications using React Native, ensuring they are production-ready and meet performance standards.
  • Extremely proactive and independent, communicating with all relevant stakeholders on plans, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Create and deploy adaptable UI elements for multiple platforms, emphasizing scalability and ease of maintenance, while incorporating architectural frameworks such as MVC, MVVM, and MVP.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Product Managers, and Designers to understand feature requirements, define technical requirements, and develop new features.
  • Will have ownership of technology, common shareable features across a large project or on several small projects.
  • Produce excellent, thorough design, architecture, and development documentation.
  •       Focus on quality and strive to improve processes, propose standard methodologies, and drive their usage within the teams.
  •       Partner with QA engineers to ensure test coverage and verify test plans that help deliver high quality features.
  •       Write unit tests and component tests for features with key characteristics of stability and maintainability that prevent regressions in the product code.
  •       Efficiently debug issues raised by internal and external users and work with the team to provide resolutions to these issues.
  •       Support and mentor other team members and provide technical leadership by reviewing pull requests, design plans, and participate in architectural discussions.
  •       Communicate on development strategy, technical subjects related to software development frameworks and collaborate effectively with the globally distributed teams to achieve business goals.
  •       Ability to understand, discuss and improve specifications to enhance the overall experience for players and game studio partners.

Required Qualifications

  • Must relocate to Los Angeles, Orange County, or San Diego area.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent. 
  • 5+ years of solid programming experience in end-to-end development using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node.js, React and React Native.
  • Expert level knowledge of object-oriented design and design patterns, and passionate about writing high-quality and well-architected code.
  • Collaborated on cloud-deployed services hosting APIs and backend processes talking to data storage and caching layers, event buses, and other services.
  • Strong understanding of engineering best practices – requirement gathering and analysis, design and develop secure and scalable code with unit tests, partake in code reviews and documentation; experience with open source-based technology stack.
  • Ability to oversee periodic on-call duty as well as out-of-band requests.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Several years of experience in working with C++ and C# on multi-threaded applications.
  • Strong independent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in a team environment.
  • Proven ability to learn quickly and tackle new challenges.
  • Works independently with strong work ethic to deliver on critical timelines.
  • Able to work quickly and efficiently in a challenging environment.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.
Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
