Job Title: Part-time Software Project Manager (20 hours per week)

Job Description

This role leads end-to-end software implementation projects from initial kickoff through go-live and project closure. The Software Project Manager coordinates cross-functional teams, manages scope, budget, and timelines, and ensures each implementation aligns with the client’s business requirements and organizational objectives. The position requires strong enterprise project management capabilities, excellent stakeholder communication, and a structured approach to risk, issue, and change management.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end software implementation projects from kickoff through go-live and project closure.
• Develop and maintain detailed project plans, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocations.
• Coordinate internal teams, client stakeholders, third-party vendors, and implementation partners to ensure aligned delivery.
• Facilitate project kickoff meetings, recurring status meetings, steering committee updates, and post-implementation reviews.
• Monitor project scope, manage change requests, and follow established governance processes for approvals and updates.
• Identify project risks, issues, and dependencies and develop effective mitigation and contingency plans.
• Track project budgets and forecasts and ensure all contract deliverables are clearly defined and met.
• Ensure all implementation activities align with client business requirements and broader organizational objectives.
• Coordinate key implementation activities, including data migration, system configuration, integration work, testing, training, and deployment.
• Oversee User Acceptance Testing (UAT), ensuring test plans, defect tracking, and sign-offs support go-live readiness.
• Monitor project progress using project management tools and provide clear, regular status reporting to stakeholders.
• Escalate issues appropriately while driving timely and effective resolution.
• Ensure all project documentation is accurate, complete, and maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support knowledge transfer and a smooth transition to customer support or operations teams after implementation.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience managing end-to-end software implementation projects.
• Strong enterprise project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and resource management.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional teams, client stakeholders, and external vendors.
• Experience managing scope, change requests, and governance processes in complex software projects.
• Ability to identify and manage project risks, issues, and dependencies with clear mitigation strategies.
• Competence in tracking project budgets, forecasts, and contract deliverables.
• Hands-on experience coordinating data migration, system configuration, integration, testing, training, and deployment activities.
• Experience overseeing User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and preparing organizations for go-live.
• Proficiency with project management tools for tracking progress and reporting status.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for facilitating meetings and providing updates.
• Solid documentation skills to maintain comprehensive project artifacts throughout the lifecycle.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Background in software implementation projects within enterprise environments.
• Formal education or training related to software project management or software implementation.
• Experience working with multiple stakeholders, including internal teams, clients, and implementation partners.
• Ability to support knowledge transfer and operational handover after project completion.

Work Environment

The Software Project Manager works in a structured, project-driven environment focused on enterprise software implementation. The role relies on project management tools to track tasks, timelines, risks, issues, and budgets, and involves regular virtual and in-person meetings with internal teams, client stakeholders, and external vendors. The position typically follows standard business hours while allowing for flexibility around key project milestones such as testing cycles and go-live events. The environment emphasizes collaboration, clear communication, thorough documentation, and adherence to established governance and delivery processes.

This is a Contract position based out of Saint Paul, MN.

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $65.00/hr.

This is a hybrid position in Saint Paul,MN.
