Job description

Job Description:
The Product Engineer II at AAON plays the role to work in the design, development, and continuous improvement of HVAC products and systems. This mid-level engineering position requires a good foundation in mechanical engineering, with a focus on design for manufacturing processes, cross-functional collaboration, and innovation.
This role provides support on semi to complex engineering projects. The ideal candidate must have good technical knowledge to build productive internal/external working relationships to resolve mutual problems by collaborating on procedures or transactions.
Primary Duties
The Product Engineer II is responsible for developing the design, validation, and implementation of HVAC products and components. Focus on providing standard professional advice and creating initial reports/analysis for review by experienced team professionals. This includes ensuring compliance with industry standards, improving product performance, and supporting manufacturing and field operations. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams including R&D, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain to ensure product success from concept to production.
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Design products and coordinate the manufacturing process of those products.
  • Work with the engineering team to design innovative new products.
  • Work closely with the sales and engineering teams to create industry-relevant products that meet project and company specifications.
  • Transform ideas into high-end products that perfectly meet the needs of our customers.
  • Create complete product designs using component selection software and 3D modeling tools.
  • Use industry knowledge to develop unique product ideas.
  • Update existing designs for cost reduction, innovative upgrades, efficiency, etc.
  • Create models, prototypes, drawings, BOMS, etc.
  • Work with manufacturing and quality to optimize design for production.
  • Assist factory personnel with testing and assembly.
  • Analyze HVAC systems and equipment when necessary to find inefficacies or malfunctions and create solutions to optimize performance and increase the efficiency of operation.

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • 3+ years of HVAC related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3+ years of experience with 3D modeling software such as Autodesk Inventor (preferred) or other 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, CREO, etc...)
  • 3+ years of experience with AutoCAD
  • Great knowledge of principles and practices of engineering, preferably in the HVAC and manufacturing industries
  • Ability to visualize theoretical models and design concepts
  • Understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, simulations, and electrical principles
  • Refrigeration and hydronics experience
  • Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) systems and ERP integration
  • Experience with problem-solving, time management, and communication skills
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and industry standards
  • Able to work efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance and certification processes
    or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

Essential Mental and Physical Functions:
This position requires the ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments. The engineer must be able to analyze complex data, make sound engineering judgments, and communicate effectively across departments. Occasional travel may be required to support field operations or supplier visits.
