Job description

Lead Electrical Controls Engineer

An established industrial automation organization is seeking a Controls Engineer to support the design, programming, integration, and commissioning of custom automated systems. This position offers a mix of controls engineering, hands-on troubleshooting, and cross-functional project collaboration in a fast-paced manufacturing and automation environment.

Position Responsibilities
  • Design and develop electrical control systems for custom automation equipment
  • Program and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, motion controllers, and related automation hardware
  • Create electrical schematics, panel layouts, and system documentation using electrical CAD software
  • Support integration with existing production equipment and third-party systems
  • Assist with equipment startup, commissioning, debug, and troubleshooting activities
  • Coordinate with mechanical engineering, robotics, assembly, and project management teams throughout project execution
  • Support electrical assembly and panel build efforts to ensure compliance with project requirements
  • Participate in system testing, validation, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Occasionally travel to customer sites for installation support, startup assistance, and service work
Desired Background
  • Experience with PLC, HMI, and motion control programming
  • Hands-on experience programming and troubleshooting Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLC/HMI platforms, with exposure to Ignition SCADA development, integration, and system support.
  • Knowledge of industrial electrical systems, power distribution, sensors, VFDs, servos, and automation devices
  • Ability to create and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings
  • Familiarity with industrial machinery safety and electrical standards
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving abilities
  • Hands-on mindset with the ability to support field and shop activities as needed
