Job description

Tangram Flex is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with a minimum of 8 years of experience with technical leadership in open mission system integration, applying MOSA methodologies in modular software implementation build and verification. Our team works heavily in open standards such as UCI, WOSA, OMS, AMS GRA, and Big Iron, bringing modern and innovative software integration solutions to our customers and partners, greatly impacting how quickly cutting-edge technologies can be deployed to the field.


Working with Tangram Leadership, a Senior Level Software Engineer would provide technical solutioning and direction of software integration design and development. By partnering with Program Management and leading a team of system and software engineers to deliver deployable solutions to our Government and Industry Customers.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Leadership

  • Design & Code: Architect, develop, and test high-performance software (C/C++, Java, Python, Rust) aligned with open standards to ensure modularity and interoperability.
  • System Optimization: Analyze and improve system efficiency, resource allocation, memory management, and overall platform stability and scalability.
  • Continuous Innovation: Stay ahead of emerging defense tech trends, evaluate new tools, and contribute to internal and external technical communities.

Client Engagement & Business Development

  • Client Technical Thought Partner: Act as the primary technical point of contact to gather requirements, manage expectations, and deliver on project commitments.
  • Product Support & Demos: Provide technical guidance, deliver findings, and lead product demonstrations for customer engineers.
  • Growth & Proposals: Identify expansion opportunities during client engagements and help author Statements of Work (SOWs) and technical proposals to capture follow-on work.

Engineering Mentorship & SDLC

  • Team Leadership: Mentor and grow software engineers, driving code reviews, best practices, and collaborative culture across software and systems engineering teams.
  • Project Management: Facilitate the end-to-end software lifecycle using Agile SDLC methodologies, actively participating in sprint planning, reviews, and integration events.

Integration, Testing & Product Delivery

  • Tangram Product Integration: Learn, demonstrate, and maintain deep technical expertise in Tangram Flex products within customer environments.
  • Verification & Validation: Support end-to-end system testing, performance analysis, and hardware/software integration to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate across engineering disciplines and participate in key in-person client alignment and integration meetings.


REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: BS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience (MS/PhD preferred).
  • Experience: 8 years in software engineering development, including proven hands-on technical leadership on R&D or product development projects.
  • Security Clearance: U.S. Citizenship required; must possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance.
              • Expert-level C/C++ development skills.
              • Secure Development: Experience in end-to-end software product development using secure software engineering practices.
              • client Engagement & Travel: Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% of work time to client sites, customer locations, and industry conferences as required. 
              • Work Location based in Dayton, Ohio 


              NICE TO HAVE SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

              • System Execution: Ability to independently execute complex technical tasks in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, small-team environment with minimal supervision.
              • Communication & Proposals: Professional written and verbal communication skills to author technical documentation, support proposal development, and present to external customers (experience leading R&D proposals preferred).
              • Defense Network: Strong existing technical relationships with DoW/defense laboratories (e.g., AFRL, ONR, DEVCOM/CERDEC)
