Structural Engineering Business Development Manager (Hybrid/Remote)
Job Summary: Our Business Development Manager applies technical expertise and business acumen to every aspect of their role. This individual balances delivering technical projects with actively identifying new opportunities, nurturing client relationships, and driving company growth on a national stage. By leveraging their engineering background, they discover potential prospects and build strong connections with clients. They create and implement strategic plans to expand the firm's business, frequently focusing on cold-formed steel in specific market sectors such as commercial, education, manufacturing, or institutional projects.
Responsibilities: Strategic business development
    • Identify new opportunities: Prospect for new clients and markets within targeted industries by researching potential clientele, projects and market trends.
    • Develop strategic plans: Create and execute business development strategies, goals, and objectives in alignment with the firm's overall marketing and growth plan.
    • Generate and manage leads: Drive the sales process from initial contact and lead generation to contract negotiation and closing deals.
    • Forecast revenue: Make sales projections and forecast revenue to help guide business decisions.
    • Represent the company: Act as a brand ambassador by attending industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events.
    • Manage and execute all stages of the sales cycle: Identify long-term and pre-proposal opportunities, formulate proposal strategies, conduct proposal follow-ups, and engage in post-project follow-ups.

Client and relationship management
    • Build and strengthen relationships: Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients and other industry professionals.
    • Serve as a trusted advisor: Act as the primary contact for client communication, understanding their project goals and needs.
    • Communicate value: Prepare compelling proposals and presentations that effectively communicate the firm's value proposition.
    • Marketing and education Conduct "lunch and learns" and educate clients on new and existing services and products.

Technical project support
    • Provide technical oversight: Collaborate with the engineering team to offer technical support and consultation during client interactions.
    • Ensure successful delivery: Work closely with the project management team to ensure all client requirements are met, and projects are delivered successfully.
    • Analyze project feasibility: Assess the technical and commercial viability of potential projects.

Qualifications and Experience: Education and experience
    • Bachelor's or master's degree in civil or Structural Engineering.
    • PE license is preferred.
    • Proven experience in structural engineering and/or business development within the construction or engineering industries, with a focus in cold-formed steel and industrial structural applications.

Technical skills
    • Structural design and analysis:
      • Knowledge of structural analysis software like REVIT, CFS Designer, HILTI Profis, RISA, etc.
      • Knowledge of seismic design, hurricane resistant design, blast-resistant design, and extreme climate design
    • Market expertise: A deep understanding of cold-formed steel and industrial structural engineering products, services, contractors and market trends.
    • Competitive analysis: Ability to collect and interpret competitor information to identify market opportunities.

Business and soft skills
    • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, and a proven ability to negotiate.
    • Relationship-building: Strong interpersonal skills with an aptitude for forging and nurturing professional relationships.
    • Problem-solving: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities including conflict resolution.
    • Strategic thinking: Ability to develop and execute strategies that drive long-term business growth.
    • Organizational skills: Strong time management and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with ability to motivate a team.
    • Software: Proficiency in MS Office and CRM software (e.g. Deltek)
    • Proven sales track record: experienced working to and exceeding sales targets.

Location: Remote/Hybrid for Denver-based team
Travel: Up to 10%
Compensation & Benefits:
The expected base salary range for this role is $105,000 - $135,000 USD per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of factors including skills, experience, qualifications, and location.
