About the role of the Software Development Engineer II

Are you looking to make a difference in the healthcare space utilizing innovative technology in a close-knit team environment? We're looking for a Software Development Engineer II to support and modernize our Employee Experience and Finance systems and applications.

As a Software Development Engineer - II, you will be responsible for creating cloud-based solutions on Azure using programming languages like C#, and technologies like Microsoft power platform to make an employee's day better at Premera. This role requires strong technical and analytical skills, a learning mindset and knowledge of engineering practices like system design, TDD/automated unit testing in a DevSecOps environment.

What you'll do:

  • Confer with stakeholders and IT leaders to understand business problems or improvement opportunities and identify software solutions.
  • Analyze moderate risk business needs to determine solutions. Design solutions on various platforms by studying requirements and information needs.
  • Translate moderately complex system requirements into code using multiple programming languages and/or tools. Develop and modify code and system set-up based on program specifications. Apply CICD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment).
  • Perform testing using both unit testing and test automation and document test results. Participate in testing associated with cross-functional project team efforts.
  • Produce appropriate technical documentation and notifications for changes to production systems or fixes to production problems. Create SDLC (Software Development Lifecycle) artifacts.
  • Analyze and resolve moderate risk production problems related to assigned applications. Includes performance tuning, technical troubleshooting, debugging, call-rotation, and root cause analysis.
  • Support project initiatives collaborating with the rest of the design team ensuring that development milestones and deadlines are met. Begin to provide feedback to peers on designs.
  • Provide input to standardization of IT processes and ensure application of IT standard processes and requirements.
  • Participate in continuing education opportunities and proactively improve your level of knowledge about Premera's business and relevant technologies.

What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or information systems. (Required)
  • One (1) year of software development experience, knowledge of software development lifecycle, and skills to utilize one or more programming languages. (Required)
  • Expertise in business process automation solutions and a modern programming language like C#. (Preferred)
  • Exposure to restful API's and creating services for integrations. (Preferred)
  • Ability to communicate well and represent your team to other teams or leadership. (Preferred)
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies per business needs. (Preferred)
  • Experience working in the healthcare industry or a highly regulated environment.
  • Proficient application of systems coding and development tools, techniques, and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment demonstrating ability to collaboratively solve business problems.
  • Desire and ability to continually improve technical skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and effective listening skills.

The pay for this role will vary based on a range of factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's geographic location, market conditions, and specific skills and experience.

The salary range for this role is posted below; we generally target up to and around the midpoint of the range.

National Plus Salary Range:

$92,400.00 - $157,100.00

*National Plus salary range is used in higher cost of labor markets including Western Washington and Alaska.
