Job description

Responsibilities
Noblis MSD is seeking a Software Build and Release Engineer to support a large-scale software project for U.S. Navy programs. This is an onsite position based at the Philadelphia Navy Yard.
Noblis MSD supports Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and Naval Surface Warfare Center Philadelphia Division (NSWCPD) by providing engineering, software development, systems integration, cybersecurity, logistics, and life-cycle support to Navy programs.
The Software Build and Release Engineer will support the development team by helping maintain reliable software builds, development pipelines, release packages, and version-controlled baselines. This role works closely with software developers, testers, engineers, and program stakeholders to help ensure software can be built, tested, packaged, and released in an organized and repeatable way.
Responsibilities include:
  • Develop, maintain, and improve automated software build processes
  • Support CI/CD pipelines for automated builds, testing, code quality checks, and release preparation
  • Develop and maintain build scripts using tools such as Maven, Gradle, Bash, or similar technologies
  • Support version control practices using Git, GitLab, or similar tools
  • Help manage branching, merging, tagging, and release candidate baselines
  • Troubleshoot build failures, dependency issues, pipeline errors, and environment-related problems
  • Support management of software build artifacts, including binaries, packages, checksums, and release files
  • Help prepare and package software releases for development, integration, test, and deployment environments
  • Maintain release notes, version history, build documentation, and related support information
  • Coordinate with software developers, testers, engineers, cybersecurity personnel, and program stakeholders
  • Support continuous improvement of build, release, and software delivery processes

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a relevant technical discipline
  • 3+ years of experience supporting software builds, release engineering, DevOps, or software development environments
  • Experience with build automation tools such as Maven, Gradle, or similar technologies
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, or similar platforms
  • Experience using version control systems such as Git or GitLab
  • Familiarity with branching, merging, tagging, and release management practices
  • Experience troubleshooting build failures, dependency issues, or pipeline problems
  • Familiarity with software artifact management and release packaging
  • Ability to work in a Linux environment or willingness to develop Linux proficiency
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with software developers, testers, engineers, and program stakeholders
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience supporting large-scale software projects
  • Experience working with Java-based software build environments
  • Experience with artifact repository tools such as Nexus, Artifactory, or similar platforms
  • Experience with SonarQube or similar code quality tools
  • Experience with Bash scripting or other automation scripting
  • Experience with Docker, containers, or RHEL 8/9 environments
  • Familiarity with software supply chain practices such as checksums, artifact signing, or dependency tracking
  • Experience supporting software releases in structured development environments
  • Experience working in Agile or DevOps software teams
  • Experience supporting DoD, Navy, or other government software programs
  • CompTIA Security+, Linux certification, or related certification is a plus

Compensation at Noblis is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the combination of education, certifications, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, internal and external equity, location, clearance level, as well as contract-specific affordability, organizational requirements and applicable employment laws. The projected compensation range for this position is based on full time status. For part time or on-call staff, compensation is proportionately adjusted based on hours worked. While monetary compensation is important, it's just one component of Noblis' total compensation package.
