Job description

School Aide

The School Aide plays an important role in supporting students' academic, behavioral, social, and personal development within the school setting. Working under the supervision of teachers, the Special Education Department, and other designated school personnel, the School Aide assists students who require additional instructional, behavioral, or physical support throughout the school day.

Responsibilities may include providing one-on-one or small group support, reinforcing classroom lessons, assisting with behavior management strategies, monitoring student progress, and helping create a safe and positive learning environment. School Aides may also support students with special needs by assisting with personal care, mobility, communication, and therapeutic activities as directed by educational staff or healthcare professionals.

Additional duties may include:

  • Assisting students in classroom and recreational activities
  • Supporting teachers with classroom management and organization
  • Helping students remain engaged and on task throughout the day
  • Supervising students during transitions, lunch, recess, and school activities
  • Providing behavioral support and positive reinforcement
  • Assisting with toileting, diapering, feeding, and other personal care needs when required
  • Supporting students with mobility and adaptive equipment
  • Maintaining professionalism and confidentiality in accordance with school policies
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous experience working with children, individuals with disabilities, or in a caregiving role preferred
  • Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively with teachers and school staff
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain professional standards and confidentiality
  • Current CPR certification, if required by the district
  • TB clearance (questionnaire, PPD, or chest X-ray), if applicable
  • Current health certificate, if required by state regulations or contract requirements
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local employment requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
