The Smart Mobility Practice is seeking a Sr. Traffic Engineer in Ontario or Tustin, CA.

This role will focus on traffic engineering design and analysis, technical leadership, business development and contributing to the delivery of complex transportation infrastructure focused on Caltrans District 8 or 12.

As a traffic engineering leader, this position will manage project design teams and tasks for transportation projects that may involve traffic signals, signing, striping, temporary traffic control, and ITS communications. The position will also have the opportunity to supervise and mentor team members and help grow the California team and overall DEA Smart Mobility practice.

What You'll DoKey Responsibilities:
  • Project Delivery: Managing traffic engineering design and/or analysis tasks or projects of varying degrees including scope, schedule, budget, Quality Management, and financial management with the ability to stamp project plans.
  •  Technical Leadership: Provide technical direction and task leadership for transportation projects and collaborate with Smart Mobility leaders in other markets and across DEA's diverse business units, markets, and technical practices to assist with staffing to fulfill project and business development opportunities.
  • Business Development: Assist in cultivating and maintaining effective client relationships to support business development opportunities.
  • Staff Development: Promote employee development, provide mentoring and training for junior staff.
  • Talent Management: Assist the Smart Mobility team to attract, develop, and retain top talent.
What You BringRequired Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Current Professional Civil (PE) License in California.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in traffic engineering, demonstrating hands-on expertise in traffic engineering design and analysis.
  • Collaborative team player who communicates effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Takes ownership and shows initiative in delivering high-quality work.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Recent and relevant project experience with Caltrans District 8 or 12 with delivery of complex transportation infrastructure
  • Experience leading project teams
  • Experience training others in fundamentals of traffic design tasks
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related field

         The posted salary range represents the typical range for this position and is provided in accordance with applicable state and local transparency laws. Actual compensation will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
