What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the small farm position, and why are they important?

To thrive in managing or working on a small farm, you need hands-on knowledge of crop cultivation, animal husbandry, basic machinery operation, and general farm management, often gained through experience or agricultural training. Familiarity with tools such as tractors, irrigation systems, soil testing kits, and sometimes certifications in pesticide application can be valuable. Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and effective communication are essential soft skills for navigating the unpredictable nature of farming and working with seasonal help or vendors. These skills are critical for ensuring efficient operations, productivity, and the long-term sustainability of a small farm business.

What are typical daily responsibilities for someone working on a small farm?

Daily tasks on a small farm often include planting, watering, and harvesting crops, feeding and caring for animals, maintaining equipment, and monitoring the health of plants and livestock. You may also be responsible for repairing fences, managing irrigation systems, and keeping accurate records of production and expenses. Depending on the season and type of farm, work can vary greatly day-to-day, requiring flexibility and a willingness to learn new skills. Collaboration with other farm workers, vendors, and sometimes customers at farmers' markets or CSA programs is common. This variety makes the role both challenging and rewarding for those who enjoy hands-on, outdoor work in a dynamic environment.

ABOUT OUR AGENCY:
Our agency has been proudly serving the community since 2016, built on a foundation of teamwork, trust, and genuine care for both our customers and our team members. Before opening the agency, I worked as an entrepreneur, and my inspiration to join State Farm came from my uncle, who was also an agent.
I’m a proud Texas native and graduate of Texas State University, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in finance. My wife, who has been an integral part of our agency for eight years, works alongside me, making this truly a family-run business. Outside the office, I love spending time outdoors—whether that’s fishing, kayaking, or tending to our small farm filled with chickens, goats, and cows.
We take pride in maintaining a positive, flexible, and family-oriented work environment. Our agency offers health benefits, a 401k, and flexibility with time off. We also like to celebrate our successes — when the team meets goals, we enjoy “Party Fridays,” closing at noon to reward everyone’s hard work.
Our culture is centered around growth, encouragement, and support. We’re a tight-knit team that looks out for one another both personally and professionally. I’m passionate about helping my team members grow in every aspect of their lives — not just in their careers, but in the pursuit of their goals and happiness. If you’re someone who values teamwork, accountability, and making a difference, you’ll fit right in here.

We look forward to connecting with you if you are the customer-focused and empathetic team member we are searching for. We anticipate internal growth opportunities for especially driven and sales-minded candidates.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain accurate records of customer interactions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
