JOB SUMMARY
This position configures and administers an environment that contains data needed and collected by Student Life & Enrollment departments. Responsible for processes, protection, performance, and access related to this data.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the IT Team Lead of Technology Student Life & Enrollment, the following duties comprise the responsibilities of this position:
  • Administer all SQL Server and databases utilized by Student Life & Enrollment (SLE). This includes installation, upgrading, backup and recovery, security, maintenance and problem resolution on SQL Server Instances.
  • Develop and configure custom processes to help maintain databases using client/server technologies such as SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services)
  • Design and create new data integrations with vendors, data analytics teams and other departments to streamline data processing.
  • Manage and implement data integrations associated with loading and maintaining the SLE Data Warehouse using tools such as SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
  • Work with vendor-provided tools and reports to import and export data from vendor application databases.
  • Work with vendors and customers to implement and maintain various applications that connect to the SLE databases.
  • Monitor database and server performance and address issues as needed. This includes monitoring for backup files, job execution, record counts and system services.
  • Plan implementations and upgrades of database systems.
  • Perform related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Data Science, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience in a related technical, data, systems, or information technology role.
  • Proficient with database installation, administration, configuration, and security roles of Microsoft SQL Server technologies.
  • Proficient with database backup and recovery strategies using services such as SQL Server backups and CommVault.
  • Expert experience in encryption for data at rest and in transit, including backups.
  • Competent in automating imports/exports of data using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and Visual Studio.
  • Proficient using SQL Management Studio (SSMS)for manipulating data and delivering ETL requests.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell.
  • Working knowledge of server OS administration such as Windows or Linux.
  • Setup SFTP flat-file and API connections.
  • Familiar with database administration, configuration, and management of MySQL and/or Oracle.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure SQL Databases.
  • Experience with cloud-based integration platforms for data processes.
  • Knowledge of source control using tools such as Git or Bitbucket for version control and deployments.

This is a permanent, full-time (35 hours weekly) position located on the Storrs Campus. This position is in-person, with a possible hybrid option.
