What You Will Do
  • To guide students to the successful achievement of their academic goals at the University.
  • Each Academic Advisor provides academic advising services to well over 350 undeclared undergraduate students. These services include, but are not limited to, providing accurate, current curricular information; assisting students in both short term and long-term academic program planning; referring students to other offices and services on campus when appropriate; and providing counsel regarding career plans, academic difficulties, and degree program selection.
  • SIUE students are the direct beneficiaries of the work of academic advisors. Advisors explore with students their goals at the University, and they help students clarify those goals. The advisors call upon their extensive knowledge of University resources to help students achieve their goals by matching the appropriate resources with student's needs, abilities, and aspirations.
  • Advisors also provide context and connection for the University experience so that the experience has all the meaning it can potentially have for

Salary Information:
Academic Advisor I - $42,500.00
Academic Advisor II - $45,500.00
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
Academic Advisor I Master's Degree
Academic Advisor II Master's Degree + 2 Years of Experience
A Master's degree is required.
For Academic Advisor II, at least two years of direct advising experience is required.
This position requires a minimum of a master's degree in student personnel, higher education or a related field; experience in the academic advisement of undecided students, career planning and/or other relevant areas of student personnel services; working knowledge of college student development theory; strong communication skills; familiarity with multicultural, cognitive, social and other developmental concepts; detailed knowledge of University policies and procedures; thorough understanding of degree programs and requirements; and excellent organizational skills.
