Job Summary Salem Fire is currently establishing a Paramedic list for current and future Single Role openings What you will do: The Single Role Paramedic performs all work consistent with the Paramedic certification level as specified by the Oregon Health Authority. Other duties include training, public education, equipment and station maintenance, and other related assignments. Paramedics work under the supervision of a Fire Captain.

Paramedics do not supervise but may be the lead paramedic at the scene and as such will provide direction to others in the coordination of patient care. Incumbents in this position may provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel or students. Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.

Must pass the pre-employment background check which may include a medical assessment, psychological assessment, and drug test (including marijuana). Must have an Oregon Driver's license, or the ability to obtain an Oregon license within 30 days of residency and meet the City of Salem's driving standards. Oregon Paramedic or, National Registry certification as a Paramedic and the ability to qualify for State of Oregon reciprocity, provisional, transitional, or possession of EMT-P from another state and be able to qualify for State of Oregon reciprocity per the Oregon Health Authority (ORS 682 and OAR 333-265) by date of hire.

Compensation: https://www.cityofsalem.net/home/showpublisheddocument/20104/639032121726400000 Employees hired as Single Role EMTs (SRE) or Single Role Paramedics (SRP) will receive salaries within the pay range specified for their job classifications, as outlined in the pay schedule. Additionally, SRE and SRP employees will receive credit for prior experience as an EMT or Paramedic at another agency

Your previous experience will be credited at a 1:1 ratio, meaning for every year of experience, you will be placed on the corresponding salary step, rounding to the next step. For example, if you have worked for 3 years as an EMT or Paramedic at another agency, you will be placed at Step 5 of the salary schedule. Salary increases will occur at regular intervals based on your years of service.

Step 1: 0-6 months of experience, Step 2: 7-12 months, Step 3: 13-24 months, Step 4: 25-36 months, Step 5: 37+ months of experience. Single Role Paramedic are represented by IAFF Local #314 Salem Professional Firefighters Union Tentative Hiring Timeline: Position posting- June 1 - June 21, 11:59 p.m. Selection process- July 2026 Background and Psych- Late July - Mid August 2026 Academy Start Date- Variable as needed, Early to Mid-September 2026 Schedule: TBD Newly hired Paramedics will begin on a 40-hour work week, following a 4/10 schedule, assigned to a surge unit

When a 24-hour shift becomes available, employees will have the opportunity to transition to that schedule based on seniority. However, transitioning to a 24-hour shift is not mandatory; employees may choose to remain on the 4/10 schedule if preferred.
