Job description

About the Role 

Power Integrations is seeking an ambitious, highly motivated Principal AI/Data Center Systems Engineer to help define and develop next-generation high-density power solutions for AI and data center applications. 

In this role, you will contribute to the development of high-density power converters, intermediate bus converter (IBC) modules, and protection circuits for next-generation AI and data center systems using Power Integrations products and technologies. 

You will work closely with the new product development team to create novel applications for high-frequency power converters using state-of-the-art GaN and silicon technologies, and to deliver differentiated solutions that address critical customer needs. 

You will also develop best-in-class reference designs using Power Integrations products for next-generation AI and data center power architectures. 

Responsibilities 

  • Develop innovative high-frequency power converter solutions for AI and data center applications across AC/DC and DC/DC architectures using Power Integrations products. 

  • Define power converter architectures and key system components for emerging AI and data center power solutions. 

  • Provide switching power supply design support and technical guidance for applications based on Power Integrations products. 

  • Develop reference designs and application solutions that demonstrate performance, efficiency, and system value for next-generation AI and data center power architectures. 

  • Collaborate with product development teams and customers to solve complex technical challenges, evaluate design tradeoffs, and optimize system performance, density, and reliability. 

  • Serve as a technical expert and provide advanced application support to customers worldwide. 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelorโ€™s or Masterโ€™s degree in Electrical Engineering, or foreign equivalent 

  • Minimum 15 years of relevant industry experience

  • Hands-on experience and deep expertise in high-density, high-frequency power converter design, including server power applications above 3 kW 

  • Strong familiarity with power supply topologies including: 

  • Active power factor correction circuits 

  • Phase-shifted and LLC resonant converters 

  • Buck, boost, buck-boost, and flyback converters 

  • Expert knowledge of high-frequency magnetics design 

  • Ability to perform complex calculations, including worst-case analysis, for circuits designed using Power Integrations products 

  • Experience with tools such as MATLAB, Excel, and simulation software such as SIMPLIS/LTspice/PLECS 

  • Strong hands-on capability and experience using lab equipment to test high-frequency switching power supplies 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience creating specifications, technical reports, and test plans or instructions 

  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards and system architectures 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience developing firmware in C/C++ for embedded controllers in power supply applications, along with the ability to provide firmware guidance for applications using Power Integrations products 

  • Experience using finite element tools such as ANSYS

  • Experience designing power supplies/power converters from concept to production and supporting post production

  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as I2C and PMBus

  • Familiarity with tools for debug of power converters with embedded controllers
