What is a ship channel?

Ship Channel jobs involve various roles related to the operation, maintenance, and management of navigable waterways used by ships, such as port workers, channel pilots, dredge operators, and logistics coordinators. These professionals ensure the safe and efficient movement of vessels through channels by monitoring traffic, coordinating with port authorities, and maintaining channel depth and safety. Ship Channel jobs are critical to supporting global trade and the transportation of goods by sea.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in ship channel operations?

Professionals in ship channel operations often encounter challenges such as coordinating vessel traffic during periods of high congestion, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and adapting to changing weather or tidal conditions. Effective communication with pilots, harbor masters, and port authorities is essential to prevent delays and maintain safe passage. Additionally, quick decision-making and problem-solving skills are vital, as unexpected situations such as equipment malfunctions or emergencies may arise.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a ship channel operator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Ship Channel Operator, you generally need knowledge of maritime operations, navigation rules, and safety protocols, often supported by relevant certifications such as STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping). Familiarity with vessel traffic management systems, radio communication tools, and navigational aids is typically required. Strong situational awareness, decision-making abilities, and clear communication skills are crucial for effective coordination. These skills are essential for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of vessels through busy waterways, minimizing risks and delays.

Job description

About Warp
Warp is the AI-native Employee Management Platform for ambitious companies. Our platform includes HRIS, payroll, IT, benefits, tax compliance, and more - all built from scratch on an AI-native architecture from day 1.
Warp embeds itself into every part of a company's people operating layer, we process over half a billion $ annually in payroll, on track to grow to $2B.
Legacy vendors in our space built their businesses by profiting from complexity. Warp is built from day one for AI to be the primary operator, not a feature. Every advance in LLM capability widens our lead.
We hire people who ship constantly, own outcomes, and care about craft. We're in the office five days a week because speed and proximity are a competitive advantage at this stage. If you want to build something that automates an entire category of core work, not just another point solution, this is the place.
We've raised over $85M from top investors like Ashton Kutcher/Sound Ventures, Y Combinator, founders of Dropbox, Replit, SV Angel, and Homebrew Capital. Built by an obsessive team from MIT, Ramp, Brex, Google, Dropbox, Apple, and more.
About the Role
Channel partnerships are one of Warp's biggest growth opportunities.
We're looking for our first Channel Partnerships Lead hire to build this function from the ground up. You'll create a repeatable partner motion that generates qualified pipeline through trusted advisors who already serve our ideal customers. Think accounting firms, benefits brokerages, fractional HR leaders, executive advisors, and other firms helping founders build and operate their companies.
In this role, you'll own the entire channel motion, from identifying the right partner segments and developing the playbook to sourcing new partners, launching relationships, generating revenue, and building the systems that make the channel scalable.
You'll work directly with company leadership and have significant ownership over one of Warp's highest-leverage growth initiatives. As the channel grows, so will your scope.
What You'll Do
  • Build Warp's partner ecosystem across accounting firms, benefits brokerages, fractional HR firms, executive advisors, and other trusted advisors.
  • Source, negotiate, and launch strategic partnerships that generate qualified pipeline and revenue.
  • Own partner-sourced pipeline and work closely with Sales to convert referrals into customers.
  • Build strong, long-term relationships with partner leaders and create repeatable referral motions.
  • Develop the playbooks, onboarding, enablement, and reporting that allow the channel to scale.
  • Help build one of Warp's highest-leverage growth channels from the ground up.

What You Need
  • 5+ years of experience in Partnerships, Business Development, Sales, or another GTM role
  • At least 3 years building or managing strategic partnerships
  • Experience creating or meaningfully scaling a partner or channel program
  • Strong communication and executive relationship-building skills
  • High agency - you identify problems and solve them without waiting for direction
  • Previous startup experience is a plus

Benefits at Warp:
  • 100% Health Coverage: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans for you and your dependents.
  • 401(k) Matching: Start investing in your future from day one.
  • Unlimited PTO: We offer flexible PTO, meaning you're trusted to take the time you need to recharge while balancing your responsibilities and team commitments.
  • Commuter Benefits: Pre-tax commuter benefits for your daily trip to our NYC office.
  • Catered Lunch Daily: Great food, every day, on us. No meal prep, no decision fatigue.
  • Quarterly Offsites: Beautiful locations to connect as a team. Past locations include Spain and Catskills.

Warp is based in New York City, and we prioritize candidates who can commit to being on-site 5x per week. Please refer to the top of this page for this position's hiring location.
