Job description

Schedule:

M-F 9AM to 5PM

**May also require early mornings, evenings or occasional Saturdays due to special events.**

The Business Development Officer is responsible for the solicitation of new credit union relationships and business through referrals and various outreach activities with the branches, community organizations, professional affiliations, and sourcing.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities                                                                             

  • Consistently meet all Shell FCU Service Commitments; Shell FCU Employee Creed and Shell FCU Service Distinctions.
  • Accountable to maintain knowledge of and comply with all applicable rules and regulations required within the scope of duties, including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act.
  • Required to attend annual training sessions as instructed or scheduled.
  • Perform job duties and responsibilities in compliance to Shell FCU policies, procedures, philosophy and standards of performance.
  • Build effective relationships and trust with local businesses, members and potential members by listening to and uncovering their needs and educating them about credit union philosophy and products, services that are most appropriate for their situation.
  • Attend and network at Chamber Events such as ribbon cuttings, mixers, committees, etc. to gain credit union exposure and develop potential profitable business relationships.
  • Pro-actively seek information from members and prospective members to understand possible changing situations, needs and desired benefits, and evaluate product or service alternatives.
  • Apply newly gained knowledge, skills or techniques to current work and share successes with other team members.
  • Keep updated on changes to credit union industry environment, competition and customer's business environment. 
  • Support marketing campaigns and product launches; modify sales techniques to achieve sales results.
  • Assist assigned Branches in meeting their monthly goals.
  • Facilitate seminars upon request of the Marketing Manager.
  • Conduct effective networking, outreach strategies, community events and on-site visits in an effort to gain new credit union business and brand awareness.
  • Work with other business units in developing referral sources for potential new members and up sale to current members.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

Experience:

Three to five years of working Business Development or sales experience.

Education / Training:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of credit union products and services 
  • Must possess professional verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interview effectively, and use various interpersonal styles and communication methods to gain their acceptance of a product or service
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, managing time and resources to ensure work is completed efficiently and within established timeframe. 
  • Effective sales ability and persuasiveness
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships both internally and externally
  • Ability to work in an open-concept workspace/environment.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to bend and stand. May at times be able to lift, carry and/or move up to 15 pounds.
