Job description

Job Summary:
Oversees team of Sewing Machine Operators who complete hanging signs and panels for a variety of retail displays using production sewing machines. Operates in a high-volume production facility. The Supervisor manages all activities related to the production processes, including but not limited to running equipment, maintaining Quality of product, packing, and other related duties. Supervisors are responsible for workflow management, quality, and success of jobs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plan and organizes workflow to meet customer ship deadlines
  • Supervises and oversees production output of sewing team
  • Coordinates with other departments as needed on workflow
  • Manages/ensures that all work flowing through the team is accurate, efficient, and timely.
  • Ensure quality of products before packaging and shipping
  • Assembles panels and borders per established work instructions utilizing commercial sewing machines. This includes sewing borders to panel cloth, applying trims and using decorative seams
  • Operates sewing machines using foot lever and hand control
  • Determines which seam style to use according to specifications on order/ticket
  • Aligns fabric, backing, aluminum stays, elastic, Velcro, follows seams, edges, or marking
  • Sews parts with various types of stitches such as vertical stitched OR straight stitched
  • Trims excess threads and edges of parts
  • Uses gauges to insure proper placement of stitches on each piece of fabric
  • Measures and cuts textiles accurately according to design specifications
  • Hand repairs any weaknesses
  • Sorts, folds, and stacks fabrics, borders or panels as needed
  • Changes needles and threads machines as needed
  • Performs quality of work inspections for all seams sewn
  • Performs all duties according to established safety and efficiency procedures
  • Maintains workstation in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion
  • Performs minor maintenance on machines as needed including re-threading and replacing of needles as necessary

Requirements
Education and Experience:
  • Preferred Prior experience in sewing/textile industry utilizing related machines preferred
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in production environment required
  • Oral and written communication skills required.

Qualifications, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
  • Ability to lead and manage production line workers, preferably in sewing
  • Ability to plan sewing production workflow and staffing
  • Knowledge of sewing methods procedures and practices
  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, manage time efficiently, and meet shifting deadlines
  • Uncompromising attention to detail
  • Must be able to sew 1/2 inch seams, straight alignment with cover pattern and no dropped stitches
  • Ability to sit or stand for 10+ hour periods
  • Ability to read, write, and understand simple instructions commonly placed on a production order
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to review and assess quality of work
  • Position is highly repetitious and involves occasional moving of moderately heavy materials, up to 50lbs
