Job description

MAJOR DUTIES amp; RESPONSIBILITIES
• Good hand dexterity required to manipulate fabric through the sewing machines.
• Responsible for awareness and compliance as applicable to the requirements of ISO9001 and the Marine Equipment Directive (MED) standards
• Basic sewing knowledge and use of industrial-type sewing machines.
• Knowledge of template patterns and ability to follow sewing markings.
• Understand verbal and written direction from instructor and supervisor.
• Operate various sewing machines to join parts of fabricated articles or Pilot Flight and Submarine Escape garments.
• Observes stitching to detect defects and notifies supervisor or sewing machine repairer when defects are caused by machine malfunction.
• Stitch binding tape or zippers to exposed edges of garments.
• Stamp grommets into edges of garments using mallet and punch or eyelet machine.
• Cut excess material or thread, using blade attached to machine or scissors.
MINOR DUTIES amp; RESPONSIBILITIES • Select cut pieces of fabric and sewing supplies, for example; binding, webbing, cord piping, tape, thread, or welt, according to specifications or color of material. • Maintain machine; lubricate with oil, change needles or secure modifying attachments to machine. • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs is required. • Ability to sit 90% of the day.
ABILITIES:
The ability to comprehend information and ideas presented verbally or in writing.
• The ability to communicate information and ideas verbally or in writing, to ensure the correct information is fully understood by an individual or team.
• The ability to identify potential risks and issues and formulate an effective strategy to mitigate the risk or prevent the issue from occurring.
• The ability to apply general rules to specific problems and solve them in a controlled and effective manner.
• The ability to use effective time management to ensure that tasks and projects are completed within agreed time limits.
KNOWLEDGE
• Ability to read blueprints is an added benefit, but not required.
• Ability to read measuring tools such as rulers or tape measures required.
• Basic math required.
• Basic reading and spelling of English language required
• ISO 9001 experience preferred
