Veterinary Technician Manager

Department: Veterinary Technicians

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Austin, Texas

Compensation: $26.00 - $28.00 / hour

Description Grow Your Leadership Career While Staying Hands-On in Veterinary Medicine

Animal Medical Center of Austin (AMC Austin) is seeking an experienced, credentialed Veterinary Technician Manager to join our leadership team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a strong Veterinary Technician leader who enjoys mentoring others, improving hospital operations, and making a meaningful impact while continuing to work directly with patients, clients, doctors, and the technical team. Unlike traditional management positions, this is a true working manager role that combines hands‑on veterinary medicine with leadership, business operations, and team development.

As our Veterinary Technician Manager, you will serve as a key member of the hospital leadership team while remaining actively involved on the treatment floor. You will spend a significant portion of your time in scrubs supporting appointments, assisting with surgery and anesthesia, helping manage patient flow, mentoring team members, and ensuring the hospital operates efficiently each day.

In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will partner closely with the Medical Director, Regional Operations Manager, and Innovetive Petcare leadership team to support hospital operations, team development, financial performance, employee engagement, and business growth.

Career Growth Opportunity

This role was designed for an experienced Veterinary Technician leader who wants to expand beyond traditional technical leadership and gain experience in the operational, financial, and people‑management aspects of veterinary hospital leadership.

You’ll gain hands‑on experience in hospital operations, staffing, payroll, inventory management, recruiting, employee development, financial performance, and business operations‑creating a pathway toward future Practice Manager opportunities within Animal Medical Center of Austin and Innovetive Petcare.

Why This Role Was Created

As Animal Medical Center of Austin continues to grow, we recognize the need for a dedicated technical and operational leader who can support both the medical and business needs of the hospital.

  • Strengthen onboarding, training, and staff development
  • Create a leadership pathway for an experienced Veterinary Technician
  • Support employee retention through mentorship and accountability
  • Improve operational efficiency and workflow management
  • Help drive hospital growth and financial performance
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and high‑performing culture
What The Role Will Look Like:

This position blends hands‑on veterinary medicine with leadership and operational responsibilities.

Technical Floor Responsibilities

This is not an office‑only leadership role. You will regularly work on the hospital floor alongside doctors, technicians, assistants, and client care team members.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting appointments and patient care
  • Assisting with surgery and anesthesia monitoring
  • Performing treatments and nursing care
  • Helping manage patient flow and hospital efficiency
  • Supporting doctors and fellow technicians during busy periods
  • Serving as a technical resource for the team
  • Mentoring Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants
  • Assisting with training and onboarding new team members
  • Helping increase appointment capacity when needed
  • Maintaining a visible leadership presence on the treatment floor
  • Supporting high‑quality patient care and client service standards
Leadership & Administrative Responsibilities

In addition to working on the hospital floor, this role is responsible for supporting the operational success of the hospital.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in Innovetive Petcare leadership meetings, training programs, and required business initiatives
  • Supporting hospital financial performance and key business metrics
  • Reviewing and understanding profit and loss statements (P&L)
  • Assisting with inventory management, purchasing, and cost control
  • Monitoring inventory counts and helping maintain appropriate stock levels
  • Supporting payroll review and timecard management
  • Assisting with schedule creation and staffing coverage planning
  • Supporting employee recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and retention efforts
  • Participating in employee coaching, development, and performance management
  • Holding team members accountable to hospital standards, expectations, and policies
  • Supporting corrective action and employee relations discussions when necessary
  • Assisting with termination processes in partnership with hospital leadership and Human Resources
  • Coordinating communication between leadership and staff
  • Identifying workflow challenges and implementing process improvements
  • Monitoring staff training progress and skill development
  • Supporting marketing initiatives and hospital growth strategies
  • Ensuring hospital policies and procedures are consistently followed

Success in this role is measured by strong team performance, operational efficiency, employee engagement, patient care quality, and the overall success of the hospital.

Leadership & Team Development
  • Mentor and support Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants
  • Help onboard and train new team members
  • Promote a positive, collaborative, and accountable team culture
  • Support ongoing staff development and continuing education
  • Hold team members accountable to established standards and expectations
  • Identify opportunities to improve technician utilization and efficiency
  • Help create clear career growth pathways for team members
