Job description

Position Description & Qualifications Serco's Maritime Engineering, Technology and Sustainment (METS) business unit employs a team of U.S. Navy Combat System experts based out of our Port Hueneme, CA location. Our goal is to provide our sailors access to cutting edge technology by providing shipboard installation engineering, research and development (R&D) and prototype integration services in support our nation's most advanced combat systems.

This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain/maintain a DoW Secret security clearance We are hiring a talented Mechanical Engineer to join our team. Navy's critical mission. In this role, you will: * Plan, conceptualize, and create shipboard mechanical designs for new or altered combat systems equipment * Apply understanding of mechanical or electrical functions to provide engineering solutions * Develop shipboard arrangements, equipment foundations, structural modifications, piping system designs, and heating ventilation and air conditioning designs * Design and document mechanical parts, subassemblies, and structures that achieve performance, schedule, and cost objectives * Determine and select appropriate methods and materials for the specification and fabrication of parts and systems * Create and review engineering installation and fabircation drawings, plans and specifications using 2D and 3D computer software * Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams and work with vendors and contractors * Work directly with customers and perform design reviews to improve designs * Perform engineering calculations to support design work * Build and test prototypes * Perform root-cause analysis on part and system failures and offer design improvements * Define and conduct product performance, environmental and reliability testing, and evaluate testing results * Generate regular technical status updates on work products * Comply with security procedures in the performance of duties To be successful in this role, you will have: * U.S. Citizen * Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoW Secret security clearance * Bachelor's degree * Firm grasp of engineering concepts and experience designing mechanical systems and products * Must be able to read and interpret documents, drawing, catalogs, data sheets, and vendor quotes * Excellent math skills: ability to apply mathematical principles and statistics to solve problems * Exceptional technical and problem-solving skills and reasoning ability * Must be self-motivated and a great team worker * Strong communication and interpersonal skills * Excellent customer service skills * Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) * Ability to travel up to 10% Additional desired experience and skills: * AutoCAD Inventor/SOLIDWORKS and AutoCAD experience If you are interested in supporting and working with our military and a passionate Serco team.
