POSITION: WIOA Career Navigator

REPORTS TO: WIOA PROGRAM MANAGER                                                                        
        
POSITION SUMMARY:    
The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Career Navigator delivers innovative, customer-focused, and technology-driven career services to job seekers through the MassHire Downtown Boston Career Center. The navigator, in collaboration with the team, will assist job seekers from diverse backgrounds and levels of experience to conduct successful job searches and obtain employment.  Specifically, the WIOA Career Navigator will: issue, monitor, and case manage ITA vouchers for WIOA-eligible customers; provide high quality workshops that incorporate best practices in adult education and training; integrate and advance the use of technology in the job search and application processes; provide 1:1 career coaching. This position is located at 75 Federal Street, Boston, MA.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 
Accountability and Results Focused:  
  • Assist job seekers in goal setting, identifying educational services leading to job placement, skills upgrades and career advancement.
  • Understand and apply knowledge of internet resources for job seekers to trainings and 1:1 coaching
  • Deliver professional quality workshops that demonstrate knowledge of adult education techniques and utilize technology for maximum engagement.
  • Understand and apply knowledge of local and national labor market trends to assist job seekers to identify career opportunities.
  • Participate in meetings and planning sessions with team to monitor services and implement strategies to improve performance and delivery of service.
  • Establish, track and meet program dashboard indicators using database software. 
 
Build relationships, collaboration and teamwork:
  • Support and promote the mission and philosophy of JVS/MassHire both internally and outside the agency.
  • Function as part of both the JVS and MassHire team to provide high quality employment services. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of key principles and best practices of adult training and workshop facilitation, group facilitation and career coaching. 
  • Conduct 1:1 meetings with job seekers assessing customers’ needs through interview, observation, and examination of records.
  • Proven ability to teach job search skills, resume writing skills, and interviewing techniques to multicultural diverse populations.
  • Proven ability to interact in a team environment and to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with key stakeholders (participants, employers, partner organizations, funders, etc.) 
  • Provide individual 1:1 Coaching to respond to job seekers questions about their career/job search 
  • Takes proactive actions to serve and refer customers in accordance with the requirements of the MassHire Downtown Boston Career Center and based on customer goals.
  • Works effectively with other program staff, and administrative staff to ensure the smooth referral of customers to appropriate services and employment opportunities.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings and team-based projects.
  • Provide assistance to fellow team members when needed.
 
Administrative/Communication:
  • Understands and promotes policies and best practices of MassHire Downtown Boston Center Charter.
  • As a public facing team member, demonstrates a professional demeanor with strong customer service skills.  
  • Communicates effectively verbally and in writing with compassion and professionalism.
  • Exercises discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Participates in meetings, in-service trainings, team-based projects, committees.
  • Communicates regularly with Supervisor to insure smooth delivery of services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
  
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:    
  • Associates Degree & 1-3 years of experience in workforce development or related field preferred.
  • Experience in the workforce development/career coaching/recruiting field with excellent knowledge of career coaching tools and strategies preferred.
  • Knowledge of web-based job search resources and techniques required.
  • Exceptional level of computer/technology proficiency including ability to complete on-line job applications and maintain accurate records of services provided in databases.
  • Familiarity with career ladders and professional advancement preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills required. 
  • Bilingual speaker a plus
