CNN seeks a talented Sr. Writer to join the CNN This Morning with Audie Cornish team!

Your Role Accountabilities...

  • Serve as the lead writer for CNN This Morning with Audie Cornish, helping shape the editorial voice and pacing of the broadcast program.

  • Write clear, conversational, accurate, and engaging scripts for live television under tight deadlines.

  • Assess and develop conversations with key guests, identifying the most compelling and probing line of questioning for panelists.

  • Quickly and accurately curate the show's most important, complex, or breaking news stories, translating complicated information into compelling, audience-focused broadcast storytelling.

  • Collaborate closely with producers, copy editors, line producers, anchor, and editorial leadership to ensure accuracy, clarity, and strong editorial judgment throughout the broadcast.

  • Format scripts, review graphics and video elements, incorporate editorial updates, and ensure all production elements align with the latest reporting.

  • Maintain exceptional attention to detail, ensuring scripts meet CNN editorial standards for accuracy, fairness, tone, and legal considerations.

  • Respond quickly to breaking news, revising scripts in real time as stories develop and priorities shift.

  • Fill in for copy editors, producers, and other editorial roles as needed to support daily production.

  • Mentor and help develop junior writers by providing coaching, feedback, and guidance on writing style, editorial standards, and newsroom workflows.

  • Contribute editorial ideas, story framing, and creative approaches that strengthen the show's daily coverage.

  • Work collaboratively in a fast-paced control room and newsroom environment where priorities may change rapidly.

  • Early morning hours, flexibility, and occasional schedule adjustments are required for this position.

Your Qualifications & Experience...

  • College degree preferred or equivalent in work experience.

  • Five or more years of professional broadcast news writing experience in a national newsroom or major-market television newsroom.

  • Demonstrated excellence in writing for live television with strong command of conversational broadcast style.

  • Proven ability to thrive under deadline pressure while maintaining accuracy and sound editorial judgment.

  • Strong news judgment and a deep understanding of domestic, international, political, and breaking news coverage.

  • Experience writing for live, unscripted, and breaking news programming.

  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple editorial and production teams.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills.

  • Experience mentoring or leading writers is preferred.

  • Familiarity with newsroom computer systems, Inews, VizPilot, for rundowns and script formatting, graphics and production workflows.

  • Must be able to work early morning hours and adapt to changing news priorities in a 24/7 news environment.
