To that end, Suffolk Design is seeking an Assistant Design Manager to join its growing practice. 

The Role: 

 We are seeking a Senior Technical Architect with deep expertise in building envelope systems, advanced Revit production, and construction documentation to lead the technical development of complex architectural projects. This role requires a highly detail-oriented professional who excels in translating design intent into technically rigorous, coordinated, and constructible documentation. 

The successful candidate will serve as the technical authority on project teams, leading the development of architectural systems, facade detailing, and BIM-based documentation from Design Development through Construction Administration. Candidates should have significant experience resolving complex conditions at exterior enclosures and coordinating integrated building systems across disciplines. 

The ideal candidate is deeply committed to enhancing the efficiency, accuracy, completeness, and speed of the design, documentation, and construction process. They will champion Suffolk's design-build vision, leveraging innovative tools, technologies, and procedures to exceed client expectations.  

Responsibilities

Technical Leadership 

  • Lead the technical development of architectural systems across all project phases with emphasis on constructability, performance, and regulatory compliance. 
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for project teams, providing expertise on building assemblies, facade systems, and envelope performance. 
  • Develop and maintain detailing standards and best practices within project teams. 

Exterior Enclosure Design & Detailing 

  • Lead the design and detailing of high-performance building envelope systems, including: 
  • Curtain wall and unitized facade systems 
  • Rainscreen cladding assemblies 
  • Window wall and punched window systems 
  • Air/vapor barrier continuity 
  • Thermal performance and condensation control 
  • Waterproofing and flashing transitions 
  • Develop large-scale wall sections and details that resolve critical interfaces between envelope systems, structure, and MEP systems. 
  • Review facade shop drawings, submittals, and mockups to ensure alignment with performance and design intent. 

Documentation & BIM Leadership 

  • Lead the development of highly coordinated construction document sets using Revit. 
  • Oversee BIM model development to ensure LOD requirements, documentation clarity, and interdisciplinary coordination. 
  • Establish and maintain Revit standards, detailing libraries, and model workflows within project teams. 
  • Coordinate architectural models with structural, MEP, and specialty consultants to resolve conflicts early in documentation. 

Technical Coordination 

  • Lead interdisciplinary coordination of architectural systems, building envelope assemblies, and structural interfaces. 
  • Conduct constructability reviews and support value engineering and technical problem-solving during documentation. 
  • Participate in facade workshops, envelope reviews, and pre-construction coordination meetings with contractors and fabricators. 

Construction Phase Support 

  • Provide technical oversight during construction administration including: 
  • Review of RFIs and submittals 
  • Shop drawing review for facade systems and architectural assemblies 
  • Participation in mockups and envelope testing 
  • Site observations related to envelope performance and detailing implementation. 
Qualifications
  • Registration as a licensed architect or professional engineer in the United States is required. LEED Accreditation and DBIA certification is preferred. 
  • Professional degree in Architecture or Engineering is required. 
  • 10-15 years with significant involvement in technical project delivery  
  • Advanced Revit proficiency with demonstrated experience leading BIM-based documentation on complex projects. 
  • Deep experience detailing exterior building enclosures and facade systems. 
  • Proven success working on multiple projects and building types, across all project phases. 
  • Extensive knowledge of industry standards and resources. 
  • Strong working knowledge of IBC, accessibility standards, and construction methods. 
  • Experience with large-scale projects over $50M 
  • Experience working with complex facade systems or specialty enclosure consultants. 
  • Familiarity with facade performance testing (ASTM E283, E331, AAMA standards, etc.). 
  • Experience mentoring staff and contributing to firmwide technical standards. 
  • Proven ability to coordinate with consultants, fabricators, and contractors. 
  • Shared enthusiasm for executing the Suffolk Design vision, with a demonstrated willingness to rethink traditional methodologies and to passionately seek out advancements in project delivery outcomes.
